Creepiest Children's Show?

"The Secret Lives of Toys" creeped me out as a kid. Actually I think it was more that Christmas movie that preceded it.

Seriously though, any kid growing up in Australia in the 80s to mid 90s proberly was subjected to the show "Mulligrubs".

Here is an example - first part of the clip and towards the end - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3kZcuAeaNk

Basically - freaky floating face scared the bejesus out of a generation of kids.

Creepiest Children's Show?

Bumping this up from reliving my childhood tonight. Is anyone else familiar with the ABC Weekend Special called Scruffy? It was about a dog who becomes a stray as a puppy. It was depressing. The dog's mother gets killed like Bambi's mom did. But, there were odd things. Like when she ends up meeting a new group of dogs. One was an alcoholic, another was suffering PTSD, and another wanted to get in this puppy's pants when he met her. I can't believe this was deemed appropriate for children. My mom let me and my sisters watch it all the time too.

Creepiest Children's Show?

"Did anyone ever see the second series of Sailor Moon over here? They ruined it by editing lesbian lovers Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus by making them cousins. The problem I saw was that they would still touch each other and do things that only people in love would do. If they didn't want children do be exposed to lesbians and gay culture, not the best show to Americanize and keep the much of the animation, except for the really racy scenes.

Hope this made sense."

I saw this and I thought they had a weird relationships for cousins. However, if they made them lesbians my mother would not have let me watch it. I was barely a teenager. My cousin was a big fan of the show and she was very young at the time. My aunt would've complained to Cartoon Network in a heartbeat if they had not dubbed it like this.

I went to Catholic school and we used to watch it when they ran out of things to teach us. I was watching it the other day and it's just hilarious now.

There was actually a show on Adult Swim that was a spoof of that. It was called Moral Oral. Actually, I found that to be a bit creepy too.

The foam rubber kids on Lazy Town all have Downs Syndrome eyes. And that girl with the pink hair has a huge pedophile following (based on the YouTube comments).

MAJOR BUMP, but I forgot that another gay relationship was cut from the show to avoid controversy in children's programming. When DIC was in charge of the program they decided to chage the sex of one character from the Japanese series. They changed Queen Beryl's henchman, Zoisite, into a female character named, "Zoycite". In the Japanese series, Kunzite (Malachite) and Zoisite (Zoycite) were both gay. However, I'm kind of glad they made "Zoycite" a female because her voice actress, Kristen Bishop gave her a great personailty and also made her snarky. They also changed the sex of another male character, Fisheye, in the SuperS dub.

beautywickedlover, it's unfortunate that your mother and aunt are such bigots. When will people learn? Anyway...I vaguely remember a show with Bozo the Clown that creeped me out. Clowns are just creepy, lol.

^ My mom found out that my uncle was gay five years ago, but she still considers him a part of the family. She and my aunt just wouldn't have liked if DIC and Cloverway had aired these relationships when me and my cousin were so young.

Hello, I'm Shelley Duvall...
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I'm sorry to say that your mom and aunt are still homophobic if they don't want young their kids to be exposed to it, but that's another topic altogether.

Going back to the subject of creepy children's show, one show that I found creepy was Zoobilee Zoo. The costumes were just really strange. The entire show was too. Ben Vereen, who played the Mayor, was obviously much better than this program.

Creepiest Children's Show?

Anyone on here from the UK may remember a show that was on CITV in the early to mid 90s called "The Spooks of Bottle Bay".

It was about a town inside a bottle populated by the creepiest puppets you will ever see. The town is haunted by a family of ghosts. Ironically, the residents of the town were 1,000 times more terrifying than the ghosts ever were.

The whole show just had this creepy vibe to it. Even the backgrounds weren't bright or cheerful, they were quite dull and grey, like a wet day at the seaside. Just go take a look on that site if you dare......
