Same here, Broadway_Baby. When I'm on a cruise, I even eat lunch in the dining room whenever possible.

Oh, for sure. And - of course - if you're still hungry afterwards, you can run up to Lido Deck buffet for more! re: Cruise ship opinions

Which cruise seems to have the best evening/late night food? I've always found Carnival's pizza stations inedible, but Celebrity and RC's midnight grand buffets could put me into gastronomical orgasms.

RC's midnight buffets are gorgeous, but I'm always too full to eat anything so I just go during the observation time to look and take pictures (they usually do that for half an hour before the buffets are opened for consumption).

I'm finding this thread interesting reading. I've personally never taken a cruise but I always see a number of them docked here.

Wow, my parents were there and had great things to say about it! (I think it was actually on "Navigator" for Royal Caribbean.) What's prevented you from taking a cruise so far, pab?

I LOVE RC's Prominade Cafe (for those ships containing a Royal Prominade) for late night (or anytime, for that matter) snacks. Open 24 hours!

Nice :) Make sure to say hi to the Drop Off for me if it's still there. There was another club that opened up after that trying to steal it's thunder but the Drop Off will always be the original in my eyes. If you walk down the pier past the Wendys and the Sbarros there is the best candy store too. I'm still looking for a certain kind of sour gummy something or other that I can't seem to find anywhere else but there.

As you can tell, doesn't matter HOW good the food is on the ship... it gets old after a while. That Chinese food place near Subway was good too :)

Yeah, I know I always crave fast food when I'm on a cruiseship. re: Cruise ship opinions

(BTW, what IS the difference between a ship and a boat?)

A boat is what you get on when the ship is sinking!

"What's prevented you from taking a cruise so far, pab?"

Well, since I grew up in The Bahamas and have travelled to Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados etc. I never saw where a Caribbean cruise would be something new to me. Maybe something like an Alaskan cruise would be new, but I understand that that one starts in Vancouver, which another place where I've lived. I've talked about taking one one day so who knows?

And Popular, the Drop Off is still there and the chinese place is called Double Dragon.

That's true, pab. I would imagine your travels through those areas are probably much more in-depth and insightful than any cruise, simply because you have your meals and your accomodation on land, and can immerse yourself in the culture better. I like cruising if my aim is relaxation, but there are a few places I'd like to revisit and explore in more detail! My parents will be taking an Eastern Mediterranean cruise this fall for their first trip to Europe, and I don't think I could stand it. (One day in Istanbul?? One day in Athens??)

Did you say you used to live in Vancouver? That's where I live now, so in my biased opinion, it's worth a visit back! There are several ships that dock here, either to go to Alaska, or for the occasional mini-cruise through the Pacific Northwest. If you're serious about crusing to Alaska, I'd recommend Celebrity Mercury, although people rave about the RC ships as well.

"Did you say you used to live in Vancouver?"

I lived on Vancouver Island (Victoria). I was a theatre arts teacher there for three years.

Apparently it's larger than I took it for; I haven't been beyond the touristy Government Street area, but a lot of my friends swear it's a really vibrant, interesting city. (It's also one of the ports for Royal Caribbean's Pacific Northwest cruise with the fabulous Radiance of the Seas ship. If you're looking for an excuse to head back to this neck of the woods, that's a good one!)

Victoria was the main city and I got there about twice a week. I also took the ferry from there to travel to Vancouver. I actually lived and taught at a school a number of miles away from the actual city of Victoria.
