Cut Ms. California some slack

NO!!! You are not reading any of the responses, instead you are just ranting on and on. It was not JUST her answer that have got people angry.
She could/should have answered in a very neutral way where she would NOT OFFEND ANYONE.After she gave a divisive answer, she continues to go on talk show after talk show repeating her answer. She has joined a right to marriage group, she has spoken out publicly against gays, the bible, and marriage for a man and woman ONLY.
If she gave her answer,it more than likely would have blown over after a day or so. It was the media whore's thirst for attention where she just kept driving her OPINION home to anyone who would listen and her fight against gay marriage, all while holding the Miss California crow that has many pissed off.
You just are too dumb to understand it.

AndallthatJazz, you need to read what I posted because THAT is why many gays are upset.
PRS, the great thing is that the President isn't really a cog in that machine. He does have power over other issues, and I do hold faith he will make progress on some, if not all, of those promises eventually. But, there are just a few more pressing issues at the moment. Just a few.

Um, she was. She said "In her country, she believes marriage is between a man and a woman".
In her country? Does she even know where she is?
She was disrespectful. Anyone who is not for gay marriage must not believe in equal rights. Any contestant who has to preface their answer with a, "No offense" is in trouble.

The only reason I would have any ounce of pity for her is because she's been, quite obviously, brainwashed and has no real opinion of her own. She states that it's her opinion but it's not really. It's the words of her mother railing against her exhusband.
I'm not suggesting she be cut any slack. I wish she could be truly educated. But I do pity her, her upbringing, and her closed-minded ways.

I do admire your optimism, but I have a feeling there will ALWAYS be more pressing issues. The so-called "fierce advocate" for gay rights ain't so fierce.

And most of the people who hold that cynicism made that ruling long ago, which tells me they never believed he would do anything for gays. And I just find that foolish. He HAS done more for gays than Clinton already. Certainly hasn't done what Bush did to us. And, GD it---HOW is he supposed to to tackle DOMA and DADT right NOW?? when there is SO much **** going down? I mean good grief. If he hasn't by the end of this term, THEN I could see the criticism.
But in all actuality, the economy and foreign affairs DO affect us gay folks.

Once again, just because someone says "no offense" does not mean that whatever they're about to say isn't offensive.

Right on, jessica--it means they DO know it's offensive, but want to play a "get out of jail free" card.

Rick Warren. Donnie McClurkin. Tepid response on the recent gay marriage rulings. Switch from supporting gay marriage to civil unions, etc. Just sayin'.
But in all actuality, the economy and foreign affairs DO affect us gay folks.
Well, I KNOW that. And I'll agree that the verdict is still out. It just that the signs ain't promising.

Rick Warren.
That was what did it--caused so many gay people to throw their hands and beads up in the air and practically claim that Obama was the gay community's worst enemy.
But, funny enough, when he was chosen for the invocation, he had to do a "gay friendly" tour, kow towing to US gay folks. He has since pulled away from Prop 8 and wants nothing to do with attacking gay marriage.
The man many consider the leader of the religious right has been emasculated on the subject of gays.
Hm.
As for gay marriage, I don't believe Obama ever promised to support gay marriage, so he hasn't backed away from a promise on that front. He HAS remained silent despite his stance on gay marriage, which at the very least lets progress happen. He HAS said ala Edwards that his position may be wrong, implying that one day he could decide to switch that position to a gay marriage supportive stance.
That's politics for you.
Aside from gay marriage, his stances are not only the best in Presidential history, they are pretty damn fantastic.

Well, it's not like Rick Warren appeared in a bubble. There was a precedent for his willingness to exalt outright homophobes.
He once supported same sex marriage "unequivocally."
Etc.

I somehow never saw that article. And, it supports my belief that his stance on gay marriage is merely a political stance.
Do you think he could have been elected otherwise? Do you think Hillary could have?
Because Hillary didn't think she could. And, I've heard from friends that it is ONLY a political stance for her.

No, of course I don't. But he's been elected.
The White House removed mention of repealing DOMA, too.

I've heard that's for the second term.

JohnBoy2 (and any other interested right-wingers), are you noting the criticism of Obama in this thread?
Or no, because the thread title is not "I hate the president's stance on gay marriage"?

Posted: 5/7/09 at 2:44pmReginald, I've been giving you far more credit for intelligence than, apparently, you possess. First of all, what have I ever said or done that would make you think I'm a "right-winger"? Or is that how you classify everyone who isn't a left-winger? Secondly, I never talked about what people might be saying, now. I was talking about the reaction after they all said what their stance on marriage was. Not months and months after. Apparently everyone just wants to ignore the fact that nobody said anything hateful toward the presential candidates and now want to pretend they did. Okay. My original observation stands, unaltered. Besides, even if I were to compare what is now being said to what was said about the beauty-pageant contestant, there is simply no comparison. This is all very tempered and restrained by comparison. It was only meant to be an observation that I found strange. The fact that people keep trying to defend themselves and make excuses, is quite telling. I'm still happy to see a link to the hateful comments thread about the candidates, following the debate.

TMZ on the origin of Carrie Prejean's Homophobia may be in her parents' divorce: Carrie's mother told her daughters their father was gay--and he, in return, told the girls their stepfather was gay, because "all men with mustaches are gay."
Plus there were other allegations against each other "too hideous" even for TMZ to print.
