Oh I am not "Holier than thou", I just find it kind of silly to take all this so seriously that you can't eat, but come on here and basically complaining about your sacrifice for your beliefs. Keep your sacrifices between you and God. It seems like it is more of a competition of "who's suffering more", or, "I can go ONE day..." "Yea? Well, I can go a day and a HALF!"
It seems that it doesn't really mean that much to the people on this thread, that is all I am saying.

Nothing wrong with that at all, Rath. I just have trouble taking the sacrifice of fasting seriously when they want to eat some hot young actor. Kind of looses the element of respect that you would expect from someone so involved with their religion that they would go a day without eating.

You know what.... everyone has their own personal relationship with God and should be allowed to observe or not observe as many or as little "rules" as they want without being judged. As Plum said, noone here knows what others posting here have been doing offline in honor of the day. I definitely didn't start this to complain... in fact I like fasting. I do it for my own reasons which I wont bother explaining but yes, a sense of community is part of it. If you took my thread title seriously you don't know my sense of humor at all.

On the subject of Chinese food and us Jews, I once stumbled on anti-semetic thread in some poltical section on another site.
He said "And there are no Jews in the Navy or Army."

I replied "Well my Nazi friend,there's a perfect explanation for no Jews in the Navy. Do you know hard it is to find a Chinese restaurant in the middle of the ocean."

Sueleen, I can't speak for the physical symptoms of others, but I've had a stomachache and headache since I woke up this morning. That would be 7 hours now. Laughing doesn't mean I disrespect the holiday; laughing means I'm trying to keep from gnawing on my hand.

Gaahh, it's always the last couple of hours that are the worst. We always have break-fast at my house and it does NOT help that the entire house smells of food. Two more hours...

Fasting doesn’t sound so bad. I feel sorry for the Hasidic Jews in my neighborhood. Yes, they look very nice, dressed in their black suits, coats and hats. I even love the big furry hats some of the guys wear. But, I can’t help but feel sorry for them because it’s 80 degrees out. They have got to be roasting.

I don't fast.

But, then again, I personally think organized religion is a tool of the devil, and only go to services because it makes my mom happy.

I fast because of Jewish guilt, which is ironic since I do almost nothing else for the religion. They give us the day off in our district, so I would feel REALLY guilty eating, especially since there aren't all that many Jews to begin with.

Though so good when you finally DO eat!!!

I went the whole day fasting for the first time. I am so proud of myself. And I wasn't hungry during the day at all. NOt sure why either but makes life easier.
