I really enjoyed the book and only sort of liked the movie. Usually the book IS better than the movie anyway. I didn't like the plot changes, even the little details kind of bothered me (like where she went to school, stuff about her boyfriend, etc). As an adaptation of the book...it was not so good, but by itself I guess it wasn't so bad.
Anne Hathaway is gorgeous!
I personally love it. I loved all the performances, and it's a movie that I would be able to watch over and over. Meryl Streep's performance was amazing, and could have won the Golden Globe just with the "Pile of Stuff" monologue.
That's true Rath - the reason I give the book the edge over the movie is the amount of detail and description in the horrors of the job; it hits a bit close to home! (I actually purchased the book and DVD for my boss for Christmas and she laughed with me immediately before yelling at me for getting unsalted instead of salted sunflower seeds and why can't I do anything right.)
Streep did not capture that for me at all - something was definitely missing. I know people who could have played it more affectingly and some of them aren't even actors.
Haha, Tiff.
