I've noticed lately that Devil Wears Prada has been getting loads of awards consideration and has found its way onto a bevy of top ten lists. Is it really THAT good?

It's a masterpiece of filmmaking on a par with Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemkin." Any so-called film student who hasn't managed to see it yet reveals him or herself to be nothing more than a dilletante.
I thought the movie itself was cute. Meryl's performance was flawless. (When I read the book, I never would have pictured Meryl in the role. Perhaps because the character's name is Miranda, I pictured someone more like Miranda Richardson. I actually pictured someone who resembled her, but I can't think of the actress.) So much is revealed by Meryl's smile at the end. I just loved her.

Yes.
The performance of Streep skyrockets that film from a popcorn movie, to an Oscar nominee. I haven't read the book, as I've been told it's nothing more than a beach book. However, I love the movie and the performances of Meryl and the delicious Emily Blunt. And it is worth saying that if I were a voting member of the Academy, I would probably check Streep's name for Best Actress before Mirren's.
It's a good popcorn movie.
It's really Streep (and to a lesser extent Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci) that make the movie. The script itself is kinda bland.
if it weren't for Streep, it would be an better-than-average romantic comedy. but Streep makes it something special that other non-Streep romantic comedies don't have: Streep.
I mean, really, She even made "Prime" a great movie just becuase of her presence.
not to mention some other wonderful performances by just about everyone in supporting roles, and a really fun soundtrack. yes, it really is THAT good.
have you seen it yet, Cruel?
It is what it is. The story itself of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA can only be so good - and I feel that they made it as good as it could have possibly been, if that makes any sense.
Streep was brilliant, and overall, the movie was expertly done. The film itself isn't brilliant, though.
the story is bland and Anne Hathaway is actually really annoying... but Meryl Streep makes it worth watching multiple times, plus i love Stanley Tucci
Quite simply, yes. It is that good.
One of the best comedies in recent years, it's smart, funny, and sophisticated. Tight editing, gorgeous cinematography, flawless costume design, rich subject matter, and a sharp script. It's also endlessly watchable and quotable. Top it all with a wonderful cast, and you've got a future classic. Mark my words.
A total blast.

I found it rather tedious. It had about an hour's-worth of material. Some good performances, though. So, no, it's not that good.
I have to agree Meryl Streep makes the movie. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci add a great deal also. I think without them, it wouldn't have gotten all the praise.
All the scenes that involve Meryl and the ones where Hathaway is on the job are pretty terrific. The other scenes in the movie with her friends and her boyfriend are flat in comparison.
Yes, it's a perfect confection.

I LOVED this movie. It was one of the few movies I have ever seen where I said, "I really want to see it again!" I had to fight my sister for a DVD of it. I am not a fan of movies at all, but this is definitely one of my favorites.
It doesn't set out to be War and Peace, but it sure is a lot of fun to watch.
My husband even liked it, and he is a tough one to please.
Oh, shucks, Diva, you're married?

Yes, SM2, Diva is married - to an exceptionally nice man.
If That=Oscar, no. It was a good movie. Well done and well acted. The last 15 minutes let me down but as Fraulein Schneider says "SO WHAT!"
I saw it last night (Netflix), and although I did not like any of the main characters, Meryl Streep did a superb job.
why don't you RENT IT?

Meryl Streep even made the otherwise dreadful Manchurian Candidate remake watchable. She gives you an acting lesson with each film. Yes, for the sake of her performance, the film really is that good. Otherwise, no.
I enjoyed it throughly.
I liked Meryl and Emily and Stanely very much. They were hysterical and the film its self is fun, fast-paced and quoteable.
I love Anne Hathaway, so it was great to see her play a real women and not Princess Mia or Ella from Frell. {I didn't see BROKEBACK or HAVOC, so yeah this was my big Annie is a women movie.}
