I love it! Seat ALL of the delegates, thereby not excluding anyone, and give them a 1/2 vote each. Brilliant compromise.

"Every vote should count and the citizens should not be punished for the actions of the party "leaders"."
And rules that everyone agreed on in advance shouldn't matter?
This is the closest they're going to get to every vote counting. In actuality, every vote WILL count. The number of popular votes cast (by the people) will still determine the Delegate distribution ratio, ALL of the delegates from both Florida and Michigan will be seated, and all of their votes WILL count, albeit not as much as the Delegates from the other 48 states.

It's a situation that should never have happened in the first place, but I agree that this is about as reasonable a solution as they're going to get.
I'm a bit out of touch, does seating the delegates this way mean that, counting his superdelegate supporters, Obama is now in place to clinch the nomination?

Obama has to win about a quarter of the remaining uncommitted Super Delegates to clinch the nomination.

This shoudl have been done in JANUARY, like the Republicans did to punish Florida and Michigan.
This 50% solution is actually in the by-laws, and somehow Howard Dean and Donna Brazile decided to ignore it.
This whole mess could have been avoided and Brazile and Dean should punished severely

Posted: 5/31/08 at 11:57pmThis had better be the end of Howard Dean and Donna Brazile. They've screwed this up so badly, hopefully not beyond repair.

Ickes wanted FL to keep 100% of its votes. Did he end up opposing the 50% proposal?

I'm watching Ickes on Meet the Press right now and in my opinion he's making a complete ass of himself.
And Hillary's latest campaign ad claiming that she's receive 17 million votes; more that any other primary candidate in history, is completely untrue. If you're going to stay in the race, at least stick with the facts.

If the Obama campaign continues to think that the job of unifying the party is the responsibility of Hillary and the Hillary supporters, they are wrong and they will lose.
Obama needs to do something BIG and DRAMATIC to change the political climate and unify the party.
And he needs to do it soon.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 11:43amWhy is this completely up to Obama? It wouldn't help if Ms. Clinton accepted what everyone else has (even Jerby!) and graciously help to unify the party? Right now, she and her reps are sounding more ridiculous than ever - and that isn't Obama's fault.

I agree with PJ, this should have been in place from the start. The DNC never had the right to strip all the votes, only half. Did anyone expect anything other than what they did?
Short of a miracle, Obama still wins. I do hope the rest of the "Supers" vote Clinton. I still believe she has the best chance in Nov. I hope we will know by next week, over it!
I will support Obama over McCain, anyday! So no attacks for my opinion.

Why is this completely up to Obama?
Because he is the candidate. The candidate has to win over the voters. It's that simple.
It's about him now, not her.

It's a shame she doesn't believe that.

She is allowed to fight for this. We have 3 more days. That's it. Hopefully he'll hit the mark by then. And THEN we can see what she does and comment accordingly.
But everyday between primaries, nothing really changes except fair weather patience of pundits and supporters. Everybody needs to chill.

DG--you're not even an Obama supporter. You've said that you're supporting McCain. So you're just a longtime Hillary Hater, fanning the flames.
It doesn't matter what Hillary does at this point. She is conducting her campaign for the millions of voters who have supported her, many or most of whom want her to go on fighting.
He has to woo and win their votes, unless he thinks he can win the GE with 50% of the Democratic Party.

It's so easy for you to be dismissive. At least I assume it's easy, as that's what you've done all along.
You can think what you will, but this IS having an effect - and it isn't a pretty one.
You started talking weeks ago about who you were going to blame - I guess now you'll just have more to pick from.

I agree - Even though I'm having fun playing with the Obamabots on the board - when it comes down to it - I am a Democrat and I want to support the party. It depends on what Obama does in the next few months as to whether he can win my vote or not. I want to believe he can unite the party - but in the end, it is up to him. I am looking for , and hoping with my whole heart, that Obama can reach out and try to unite this party. Who he picks as a running mate will be the first step. For instance, if he were to pick Tom Dascle, that would be a real big misstep.
Politically, it should be very interesting to watch what happens the next 5 months.

"You're voting for McCain."
I have stated very succinctly that I won't divulge who or what I actually vote for.

I stand corrected. You said "I hope McCain wins":
I don't discuss who I actually vote for.
But I AM on record a few times here as stating that I hope the Executive and Legislative Branches are controlled by different parties.
SO, if it really looks like the Dems will maintain their lead in Congress (for whatever that's been worth,) then I do hope McCain wins.
I hope McCain loses, mostly because of what he will do to the Supreme Court.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 6:33pmI don't know anymore. I'm just so tired of it. I'd probably be more irate if half of my vote was disenfranchised, but I don't vote in Florida or Michigan.
