re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

Well, I have a few friends from Michigan who wrote in Barack Obama's name, and they're pretty pissed...talk about disenfranchised!
Why did they have that option if they weren't going to count it?
I don't know...this was all handled very badly. But they all agreed to it...
The time to oppose it was before they all agreed to it...

PJ - can Obama do something big & dramatic while she is still in the race?

Depends on what that is, I guess, but he has to--and soon.

If he continues the way he's been playing this, his supporters will run all the Hillary supporters out of the party.

If that's the strategy, McCain wins.

I think anything dramatic may only alienate the hard-line Clintonites.

"If he continues the way he's been playing this"

Here's what he said today:
"First of all, Senator Clinton is an outstanding public servant, she has worked tirelessly during this campaign ... and she is going to be a great asset when we go into November," he told his audience. "Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, those differences pale in comparison to the other side."

That doesn't sound alienating to me. What "way he's been playing this" are you referring to?

Okay then I guess you're right, I'm wrong: He's playing this correctly, 17 million Clinton supporters will definitely vote for him and he will win hands down.

That was easier than I thought!

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

Do you think if he offered the VP to her privately she would drop out? If he does not pick Hillary as his running mate, he has no chance in hell of winning. With her, he at least has a shot. If he wants to unite the party this is THE ONLY thing he can do, IMO.

He needs her. He needs her to pull in the white men, blue collar workers, hispanics, and undecided/independents. He CAN NOT get those votes with out her. Barak, end this and actually do something you say you'll do and unite this party NOW!

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

Well, obviously, the "big dramatic thing" I think would unite the party would be to offer her the vice presidency.

But the Hillary Haters among his supporters have so poisoned the political atmosphere that it would be difficult for him to do that.

And so he is faced with an dilemma of Shakespearean proportions: How to unite the warring factions of the party without losing either his most fervent supporters or the election itself.

If he can solve that problem, he absolutely deserves to be president.

PJ - you should be fair and admit that their is enough animosity on BOTH sides to go around.

Yes, but my point is that HE is now the candidate. HE must assuage the animosity of the Clinton supporters.

He is taking a passive-aggressive tact, with statements like this one today, which do NOTHING to win over Clinton supporters:

===

"I think that Senator Clinton and former President Clinton love this country. They love the Democratic Party. I think they deeply believe that Democrats need to win in November. And so I trust that they're going to do the right thing."

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

I guess we agree. There is still animosity and passive-aggressive behavior from both campaigns, and some of their supporters (his name is regularly booed at her speeches). I just don't see how he is supposed to act like the candidate, do something big, and unite the party while she is still running.

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

How long are you going to go on blaming her?

"It's all Hillary's fault." You sound like a Republican.

Obama needs to start acting presidential now.

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

Obama has the nomination. Act like the candidate? HE IS THE CANDIDATE!

Obama has said himself that she should continue for as long as she can/wants.

Do you think she is taking away from his message? Maybe you feel all those supporters of hers should just bow down and give their support to Obama and play nice. Um, no.

Obama needs to act like the candidate and unite the party. If he can not do that, he should not be running for President. If thats to difficult for him, he does not deserve my vote.

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

I'm not blaming anything on her. All I'm saying is that he needs to handle this situation carefully. I've always said it's up to her when and how to end her campaign. I'm agreeing with you that it's up to him to unite the party.

re: DNC Decides on Flroida and Michigan

The Democratic Party WILL be united. And both Hillary AND Obama will play a major role in making that happen. Sure there will be some brain dead Hillary supporters (like that ranting racist a$$hole in the youtube clip) who will vote for McCain out of spite because their candidate of choice didn't win the nomination. If that makes them feel good about themselves, and they can live with the consequences of their actions, then so be it. They don't get to party with the rest of us "believers" when Obama wins in November. And they don’t get to bitch when McCain screws things up even more royally then they already are. But I've got to believe that in the end the vast majority of Hillary supporters will come around and vote for Obama. Because if that’s not the case after the nearly eight-year nightmare that we’ve all been living, then this country and its people are truly beyond all hope and we deserve exactly what we get. I mean, grow the f@*k up already. If you're so intent on being right, or so afraid of the Boogie Man, that you would vote for a candidate that is diametrically opposed to your core values and beliefs, as well as those of your preferred candidate, then you're beyond pathetic and would be doing yourself and everyone else a favor by staying in bed on November 4. And if those are the kind of narrow-minded, tantrum-throwing, spineless morons that comprise the majority of the Democratic Party, then the Democratic Party is truly f*@ked. But that’s NOT what I believe. What I DO believe is that at the end of the day the overwhelming majority of Democratic voters will unite and choose to do the right thing... for themselves, for their party, and for their country.

See? That's more of the attitude that's going to lose the election.

Voters do not respond to badgering and intimidation and name-calling.

That's kind of behavior elicits apathy in voters, or worse.

Obama is not "entitled" to those votes. He has to earn them.

"Obama is not "entitled" to those votes. He has to earn them."

Hey, PJ. Earn this!

Obama has "earned" everything that he has achieved thus far, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will continue to do so. He's been handed NOTHING. Hillary was the odds-on favorite going into this election. It was hers to lose. Obama has earned every vote he's gotten while swimming upstream through a tidal wave of s#!t, thanks in large part to sour-grapes "supporters" like yourself.
