They typically alot 3 hours to the film.
Why, however, must it always start so late?

Posted: 7/4/09 at 5:34pmI'm excited! I usually watch it at least once a year on the 4th, but I missed it last year so this will be fun. We get it at 7:15 so it won't be too late. Updated On: 7/4/09 at 05:34 PM

Posted: 7/4/09 at 6:14pmYankee Doodle Dandy is on right now, followed by Rocky, and then 1776, then Philadelphia Story, and Kitty Foyle follows that.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 8:36pmI set my DVR this morning, but I'm so disappointed that it is starting so late. I really want to watch it today, but tomorrow will have to do.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 9:50pmRocky just ended. I totally forgot that the "big fight" at the end took place on July 4

Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:09pmWhy else would it be on today?
#7re: DVR Alert:TCM to broadcast 1776 7/4 @ 10PM
Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:14pmBecause it takes place in Philadelphia. That's why The Philadelphia Story and Kitty Foyle are on later. They have nothing to do with 4th of July but they take place in Philadelphia.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:34pmSo all the movies on today take place in Philadelphia? That makes sense I guess.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:54pmI still don't understand why people don't like Peter Stone's book. It's long, but it's riveting.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:57pmThe canon of "Patriotic" films is fairly slim. They showed "Let Freedom Ring", "The Howards of Virginia", "The Devil's Disciple", "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and now "1776". All of them are either patriotic or take place during the Revolutionary War. Other than "Stars and Stripes Forever" I can't, personally, think of anything else to show that isn't a war film. So, it seems they've decided to set aside the rest of the day to celebrating the city the historical events took place in. The "big fight" in Rocky taking place on July 4, 1976 was only the icing on the cake. The city of Philadelphia is practically a character in Rocky with references to the Spectrum (which recently closed) and the famous scene on the steps of the art museum. The city is also a character in The Philadelphia Story and Kitty Foyle. If you're up to staying awake to watch Kitty Foyle I recommend it. It's the role that won Ginger Rogers her Oscar.
