The story of the Trojan Women will always be more poignant. The women and children of defeated cities were not in for a garden party.
The Iliad paints a rather sad picture of Athena turning her head away from the plight of the women of Troy in Book 6. Hecuba gives an offering of a personal and precious garment. Her prayer of supplication is heartfelt.
There are so many instances within the Iliad of burnt sacrifice and votive offering being made to give the fellas an excuse to eat, drink and be merry. The offering and prayer of the Trojan women were dignified and from the heart and they were completely ignored because they chose the wrong goddess by which to pray. Athena was always on the side of her beloved Achilles.
