I think this is very brave for such a young actor to do

Keep in mind, this is the tabloid trash rag the New York Post, who is more concerned with having a top selling headline rather then being 100% accurate. So, perhaps this is not yet confirmed. Facts & the New York Post do not go together!
...I don't know how I should feel about this...
So hot...but underage...but so hot...but only 17...
But so hot... NOT.
17 is legal in New York. *grin*

Wow! Well nudity is the least of his problmes-- what a challenging role! I wish him the best! It's a wonderful show and Griffiths should be excellent. Once Radcliffe turns 18 they could transfer to Broadway. US law wouldn't allow his nude scene before then.
Well, hot or not, 17 is legal in a lot of places.
*ETA: Jailyard WOULD have beaten me to that one.

The age of consent is 16 in England so he is probably old enough to be naked over there.

Does he even shave yet? Ewww.
The nudity is not in a sexual manner, is it? If not, whats the big deal? If I remember this play, his role would require him to appear nude throughout most the play. I just hope the ultra conservatives don't strike out at him & boycott the Harry Potter movies. I think for someone so young this is really brave of him. Also, didn't he appear in "The Play That I Wrote?" Perhaps I'm wrong.

I'm sure we will find out if he shaves or not once the show opens....

Romantico, people who might qualify as ultra-conservative already boycott the Potter films because of its rampant witchcraft.
There were rumors about this back in December that were then denied by someone from Warner Bros. I'd take it with a grain of salt until something more official is announced.
Equus Rumor
The original production by John Dexter was intensely theatrical. I can still remember Peter Firth in the role...and Tom Hulce...and Keith McDermott.
I kept going back to see it--ostensibly to see Richard Burton and Leonard Nimoy take over from Alec McCowen. But of course I enjoyed seeing the Equus boys naked--I was only 17 myself. And the diva component was high: Roberta Maxwell and Frances Sternhagen AND Marian Seldes!
But it was Nugget who got to me. Whenever Everett McGill (sigh...) or David Combs (mmm...) was onstage, hands held behind his back, as if tied, standing upright, bending one muscular leg at the knee and stomping slowly with his foot, eyes staring, nostrils flaring proudly...I was, um, rapt.
Bwaysinger, I agree! This will only add to their righteous fury!!
I'm just realizing...it's been over 25 years since I saw this on Broadway!
And, when I think of it, it's as intriguing and mystifying a play as ever.
If it's true, it's an incredibly challenging role, and if successful he will do much to establish himself in legitimate theatre.

If it's true, it's gutsy.
I have no problem with nudity as long as it isn't mine.
never saw B'way production but in other productions, it hasn't been "mostly nude" at all. It's been pretty tasteful.

Let's see, who were all the actors who played Dysart on Broadway?
Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Perkins
Richard Burton
Douglas Campbell
Alec McGowan
Leonard Nimoy
Did I leave anyone out?
I saw Hopkins and Perkins.
The Onion did a bit on "Equus" earlier this year. Hilarious:

I'm really interested to see how this turns out... It could be truly amazing. It sounds like an intense piece.
Well, if he does it, I wish him the best of luck !! He has to do many many different things in his career, first to get rid of the "child actor" curse and second and most important, to get away from Harry Potter who is now associated with his face for ever !!!

This can be considered official. Dan has reported to the webmistress of danradcliffe.com that it is indeed true that he accepted the role. You can trust the site; they frequently have direct contact with Dan and his reps to confirm or deny rumors.
Have fun discussing!
It's up in The Leaky Cauldron as well, another site that is excellent as far as not reporting anything they can't confirm.
I'll be very interested to see how well he does. If it goes well this would be a good way to prove that he's serious about acting and give him a life after Harry Potter.
Very exciting about Richard Griffiths as well, I may have to plan a trip to London.
