Why, Kad, have you only had rudimentary French?
Speaking of rudimentary, nom, don't you have another thread to go scold people on? May I suggest a reading of "If I Ran the Zoo" by Dr. Suess? It's frustrating for the child-like to realize they can't control the world and everyone in it, and that book may provide you the mental relief you so obviously need.

Sorry, you gotta fill your own prescriptions, no need for them here.
Absurdist theatre is a great prescription preventative!
And fun!

Time will tell on that.
Mamet's had so much success in theatre that it is going to take some time for people who have been such big adherents of his to adjust to what he is saying.
I emailed the person who was the Chair the copy of the article, for example, and he said he hadn't had time to look at it or Mamet's recent work yet. Would get back to me. Can't wait for his reaction.
The info and its ramifications have not yet been fully assimilated into the theatre community.

I can't help, in a way, feeling like he is doing this just to get more attention.
I have never felt there was any backbone in his work, so to speak, nor do I feel there is any backbone in the excerpts of content from and commentary that I have read about his book.
And does this mean, for example, that people who have liked his work will do any self-reflection as to why? Will see him or his work in a different context? Or instead will he become the Republican poster-boy for theatre? The "safe" playwright?
I can think of a couple of his plays that had gay scenes or characters in them that did not seem anti-gay, though, so that's a bit of an enigma.

I feel like David Mamet desperately wishes he were Aaron Sorkin.
However, I do feel like many of his works will continue to be commonly produced- Oleanna, Speed-the-Plow, American Buffalo- if only because they are well-known and cheap to stage. He has managed to wrangle his way into becoming an American theatre icon.
I'm not sure why Morgan receives more disgust from the community, though. Maybe it's due to the people he is associated with, maybe it's due to its crass bluntness. Maybe because he is easily more recognizable than Mamet to most people. How many people are clamoring for Mamet's book? The thing he says are no more shocking than a Fox pundit's nightly rantings.
