So we've figured out the gaping void in Namo's education that he can now proceed to address to better understand us.
I can deduce two things. Namo, you do not speak French, or have no more than two rudimentary years of it that didn't cover much. And second, you do not have a degree in theatre, which would have given you the exposure.
Of course you do not need these things to study the Theatre of the Absurd, but either would have given you the cultural background.
Be aware the the Theatre of the Absurd is considered French, but there is a Romanian-German school such as Dada, the Irish contingent including Beckett, Italian as in Luigi Pirandello, etc.
It will enhance your life.

Interestingly enough (but probably only to me), like Tracy Morgan, I've always disliked Mamet. I just found the ridiculousness of his "realistic" language and unlikeable characters to be insufferable. I didn't like who they were, how they acted, what they did, what they said, and especially how they said it. Ugh.

I agree with you Matt, and thanks ever so for getting this thread back on topic.
I have enjoyed a couple of Alec Baldwin performances in a couple of Mamet movies. But ecccch, the rest of the baggage.

The artists left Romania and Germany during WWI and ended up in Zurich, so it is questionable whether the Swiss can accurately claim the movement.

My journey to Mamet-dislike was slower. Wowed at first as a college kid (plus he got Jack Lemmon to swear like a sailor) but then slowly realized my enjoyment was more about the people he was able to get involved rather than his work itself. And then recently: November was an overly long SNL sketch, Oleanna's revival only highlighted its weaknesses and Race was just plain awful.

I was an invited panelist for the after-talk on Oleanna one time.
I was the "against" speaker and went first, letting the sparks fly. The English prof who I gather was invited to take the "pro" side was erudite and sweet and ended up laughing and agreeing with me.

David Dinkins was on the panel when I saw it -- and I can't remember whether he was for or against, because I seem to remember both panelists seeming more like they didn't give a damn.

I walked out of Mamet's Romance when it played in Los Angeles.
Granted, I am neither trained in theater nor as sophisticated as some in this thread. But, what I saw I found to be nothing more than shock schtick - trying to shock for the sake of shocking people, with no real story or development. Ohh - look at what we are saying - aren't we daring and bold...
I found better character development on a Welcome Back Kotter episode.
