Thank you so much for your inspirational work in Hamilton. I have been using "Non-Stop" as the cornerstone of my Get Psyched playlist every day in November while I try to write 50,000 words as part of National Novel Writing Month. Your beautiful show demonstrates that it is possible to get a whole lot of words out of one head and into the world. The motto of NaNoWriMo is "Stories Matter," and I think that's why we've all gone crazy over Hamilton, that's your message too. Also, by publishing this open letter, I earn a "Gratitude" merit badge, but I totally would have written this anyway. Thanks for helping me get that badge. I really wanted that badge.
Love,
Namo from @NaNoWriMo

You guys. What if Lin reads this thread???
Oh well. I guess it's messy just like democracy.

I've been reading common sense by Thomas Paine. Some posters think I'm intense or that I'm insane. You want a revolution I want a revelation, so listen to MY declaration: We hold these truths to be self evident that all posters are created equal. And when I meet Bernie Sanders I'm gonna convince him to include Broadway in the sequel, BOOM!

Dear Hamilton22:
Talk less.
Oh, and smile more.
Just don't let us know what you're against or what you're for.

Back on topic, I thought that was a really cool post Namo.
It's just amazing how Hamilton inspires so many people in so many different ways.
I'm aware of National Novel Writing Month (although I sorta tweak it as National Composition Month as I write with music rather than words).
Good luck with you writing!
And thanks to Lin for inspiring me too.

so your next step to channel Rhoda Morgenstern is to move Minneapolis where it's cold and you figure you'll keep better? (parental unit will refer to this as" the time u ran away from home"![]()

Holy crap, I can't even conceive of that.
In case my original post was a little too light on this detail, you earn the Gratitude merit badge by thanking somebody who has inspired you to write. You got yours too Taz!

Less freaks on Twitter.
Namo - are you actually writing? Hard to read between the lines in this thread.

Yeah, I've been writing so much my brain is muddy and I couldn't even make a simple post about publicly speaking of my gratitude to an inspirational writer!
Yes, I have written more this month than I have in years. National Novel Writing Month emphasizes quantity over quality (that's what revision is for!), so it's 30 days, 50,000 words. A few of my words are pretty good!
The best lesson I have learned is what happens when I set aside specific time rather than thinking I'll accomplish much when the muse descends every once in a while.

The muse is a capricious bitch, best wooed with an egg timer set to put aside minutes away from Facebook and BWW. Or so says the graffiti in the library men's room, often spot-on in the past about so many things.

"best wooed with an egg timer"
^^^ I LOVE THIS! It'd be a great t-shirt slogan.

You should expand on this...sounds like an epic novel in-the-making....

And one of the advantages for me with dealing in quantity is that I don't have time to overthink and/or censor myself.
Even if a piece sucks I print it and put it aside so I can meet the quota.
When I go back and look at what I've written I may find that there is merit and something worth keeping in a piece I may have otherwise simply tossed aside because at that moment the little voice in my head told me it sucked.
Of course a lot of it ends up being junk, but that's ok too.

Exactly! Sounds great. (We've just encouraged each other, so make sure you get the merit badge for that!)
