Dear Tea Party: You Will Get Yours

So much for those liberals who want to reach across the aisle.

Unfortunately this spewer of idiocy doesn't cite any examples of where the liberals have failed over the last two years.

Once again may I point out that Obama started his term with his party in control of both House and Senate. He should have been farther down the road than he is. Perhaps if he stayed home once in awhile, he might get something done.

What we got out of healthcare was a bill that doesn't kick in until 2014, which forces people to buy healthcare or go to jail, but doesn't provide a public option.

That's one reason why people were angry. Another is that they see all these stupid stimulus packages that don't seem to be doing anything for them.

Goth if you agree top actually discuss those points I'll happily refute each and every one of them. But if you plan on engaging in your typical seagull repartee (fly in, **** all over everything and disappear) forget it. So do you want an intelligent discussion or are you just a seagull?

I kind of feel sorry for Goth; He obviously follows the "news" (such as it is) served up by Fox. He either lacks the skills or desire to fact check what he's told. And, being a much older person, he probably came of age during journalism's golden age, where Newspapers and radio did not broadcast an item unless it "checked out", Goth is not aware he's being lied to.

I am am big consumer of the "liberal Media" but I don't trust it implicitly. I verify.

So if Goth were my Great Grandpa, I'd tell him "Check it out!" If something seems outrageous- it probably is. When someone tells you that Michelle Obama is racist and calls people "whitey" ask yourself "If this is so, why does Fox have an exclusive? Isn't this something EVERYONE would want to tell?" And when you're told that a presidential trip to India costs more than the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, hunt down the truth. (I was very amused to hear that Obama had rented out 700 rooms in a hotel that actually had only 300.)

Or in this case, where a persistent lie about the Health care Bill is trotted out, ask yourself- Does that make ANY sense? Prison? Look it up. Read the bill if you have to.

Of course it's much easier to swallow if you've bought the narrative: Obama isn't like me, He's scary. He hates his country. He's a terrorist. He's capable of anything. He wants me dead. Hats off to the right wing for preparing the ground so well any horrible lie can flourish. But you don't need to believe it.

When someone responds to the facts with "Well, okay, it's not true, but it's GOING to be true," there really isn't anywhere for the conversation to go.

OK then:

FACT: there was NEVER a Jail term in the bill. "During the House debate early this month, Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., said the individual mandate to buy health insurance in the Democrats' plan could mean jail time: "I'm not talking about figurative handcuffs," he added, waving a pair of shiny, police-style manacles as he spoke. "I'm talking about criminal penalties."


What? The House bill would require people to either buy insurance, or face a special 2.5 percent income tax. People who don't buy insurance AND refuse to pay their taxes could face the standard punishment for knowingly evading taxes, which is listed in the Internal Revenue Code. By that logic, any change to the tax code could lead to criminal penalties."

When right wing media jumped on this outrageous falsehood, they inserted a provision that "that no one could be imprisoned or face civil penalties for not getting health insurance."

Incidentally Grandpa Seagull is proving my point with is repeated fall back that ANY of this is possible because of the Democrats inherent "Sinister" motives.

He believes the lie because Nancy Pelosi is NOT an Italian Grandma who thought people should have health care- she's a Nazi who wants to put Grandmas (like herself apparently) to death. Obama isn't a fairly wonky guy who's worked hard and tried to help out his community, he's an elitist who hates America. They are capable of ANYTHING.

As you well know, the legislation forces people to buy insurance whether they want to or not. (Liberals got into that false argument about car insurance, so don't bring that up again).

The legislation was changed only because the right wing media brought attention to it. Had they not, the legislation would have gone through with jail time. Call it not paying your tax if you want, but the threat was there.

I think the point your missing is that the author of the article is basically saying "You big dummies, why did you vote tea party." You're not realizing that, whether true or not, people weren't trusting the Democrats because of things like the healthcare bill. Whether jail was or wasn't an option, people weren't trusting the Democrats or Obama.

I live in a rural area- everyday I see bumper stickers that reference the "fact" that Obama is trying to take the owners guns- but he's not. 75% of Americans KNOW that Obama has raised taxes- but he hasn't. These aren't matters of opinion- it's a matter of record. Why do people think that?
