Way to go Obama. $10 billion to BP.
"The financial hit will be reduced by a $10 billion tax credit the company is entitled to receive for its spill costs."

I hate when people rob the Democrats.
But you were against BP setting money aside, right? In the so-called "slush fund"?

What do Democrats have to do with this? It's current U.S. corporate tax law. Goth, do you have some evidence that this law was recently changed--by Democracts--to benefit BP?
Note the Democrat actually opposing it
This does NOT have an impact on the $20b that BP has to set aside for the spill.
I share Goth's outrage over the benefits provided to giant corporations by US tax law.

HA ha ha hah ha Goth has obviously crossed over to performance art!
Meanwhile, in the real world, this is what's going on:
Here's republican Michelle Bachman
"The other thing we have to remember is that Obama loves to make evil whatever company it is that he wants to get more power from. He makes them evil, and what we’ve got to ask ourselves is: Do we really want to be paying $9 for a gallon of gas? Because that could be the final result of this."

My theory is Goth is really Count A. Either way, he is hilarious with his fake outrage and all.

Haley Barbour, Republican, is worried BP will go broke!
They need their capital to drill wells. They need their capital to produce income so that they can pay that income to our citizens in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana.

Of course, Haley is kind of sweet on BP....
It's no Exxon Valdez!
"I think we could solve this with tax cuts."
And deregulation. If we just got rid of all the constraints that these poor companies have to deal with, the free market would make sure everything is OK.

"My theory is Goth is really Count A."
I have neither the time nor the inclination to have more than one screen name.
Goth, I seriously want to know: what Democrats are behind this? And/or how is Obama responsible?
The only connection to Obama I can find is White House press secretary Robert Gibbs seeming to oppose BP's claiming the tax credit.
Per The Washington Post: "When asked whether BP should be claiming a credit, Gibbs said, 'I don't think anybody would prefer that they do that.'"
So Goth...now that you see it's a matter of US Tax law and that the only comment the Obama adminsitration has made is that BP shouldn't take the credit (although there's nothing Obama can do to stop them from taking it) you'll admit that your original post is wrong right? You'll also admit that the only party defending BP and claiming they are being treated too harshly is the GOP right?
I love how Goth always brings up these twisted views and accusations, has no real evidence to prove himself right, and gets proven wrong very quickly.
You left out the part where he doesn't come back to clean up his mess.

It's not Goth's fault-that is how Republicans argue. It's why Rush's phone calls are screened to the point that the only real debate you'll ever hear is whether George W Bush is the greatest president of this century or the greatest president of all time. It's why the highest ranking Republican to ever go toe-to-toe with Rachel Maddow was Nixon's undersecretary of Agriculture.
When confronted with actual facts disproving their wild assertion, they change the subject or toss in a red herring. Facts are to conservatives what a cross is to a vampire. Right, Count?

I just thought that since the Democrats felt they could tell Wall Street whether to give bonuses or not and how much to give that they would also take the initiative to withhold taxpayer money from a company that is destroying the water.
The difference being there are tax laws on the books already spelling out the tax incentives BP is due to receive and non concerning bail-out money being used for Wall Street.
Do you approve of Socialized bonuses for Wall Street?

And you don't consider tax breaks as a form of taxpayer bailout? You do understand what a tax break is don't you? It means more money that individual taxpayers have to shell out.
Interesting that so many people here would love for the Bush tax cuts to expire, which hurt individual people, but they're ok with a company receiving tax cuts even when that company acts irresponsibly.

I think there's a difference between a tax cut and a tax credit. And the Bush tax cuts don't really impact that many people. Positively, that is.

Who is okay with that? I think you have stepped through the mirror.

But Goth I thought you were AGAINST the government telling "Wall Street" that they couldn't give out bonuses- Yes or No? So you would be GLAD they aren't voiding their tax credit? And Bush tax cuts impacted businesses, also. I think it safe to say BP will pay higher taxes under the Obama tax laws, no? That's what Democrats do, right? Raise Taxes?
If the Bush tax cuts were renewed/extended, it would add a TRILLION dollars to the deficit. I share the GOP's concern for the deficit, so I can't possibly support these tax cuts.
Note: maybe, just maybe, someday someone will have the common sense to add another bracket to our tax code. It's incredibly silly to have one tax rate for everyone over $250k per year. There needs to be at least one, maybe more, brackets added. With more brackets, there could be more fairness in the system.

And incidentally, in case anyone is really curious about this, Congress can not single out one company and punish them in law. They could not pass a law saying seeing as how BP has befouled land and see blah blah blah..." and eliminate their tax break. They law would have to apply to all companies equally.
This type of law is called a Bill of Attainder and The United States Constitution forbids them under Article I, Section 9.
Just in case you care!
