Anyone else going? PM me and come say hi.
Not going tonight, but I'll be there for "Les Miz" and "The Big Picture: The Film Scores of Paramount."
Tonight is opening night for the show that I'm in - "Singing In The Rain" at Cabrillo Music Theatre in Thousand Oaks.
I will also be there for Le Mis. Which is not selling very well.. So everyone should check goldstarevents.com 2 weeks or so before for discounted tickets.
I'm going on the Sunday night performance of "Les Miz." That's too bad that it's not selling very well. I just wish that Goldstarevents.com would give exact seat locations. If it did, I'd use it.
They don't give you seat locations.. but they sure are cheap and I have always been happy with the seats they give me. Especially at the Ahmanson.
Call me anal retentive, I guess. I always want to know where my exact seat location is. It's great that Goldstar has the discounts, but I don't want to buy a ticket and get it in the mail, and it's the back row of the balcony. But, that's just me.
Have you ever done HOT TKTS at The Ahmanson? I've seen so many shows there throughout the years for $20 and it's always front orchestra.
What day is it? I'm flying out to LA tomorrow.
Neal,
Goldstar does not mail you tickets. you get there 2 hours before the performance and they give you best seats available. And yes.. most of the time we get front and center. And not only at the Ahmanson. You really should try it one time.
Dame, we were going....but Steve has some minor surgery on the top of his head tomorrow, and I have a 7AM flight Sunday morning to Portland.....so I gave the tix to a customer....but we WILL be there for Les Mis and Donna Summer
Very tempting. I'll let you know if I end up going.
PS - I've gotten Box Seats the last 2 times I did HOT TIX at the Ahmanson (Color Purple and A Chorus Line) so it's not always front orchestra. It's hit and miss, but for $20 they don't give you much chance to complain!
"Diana Ross at Hollywood Bowl this weekend."
I heard she's only working the wine bar.
She was fantastic tonight. In great voice. And the place was packed. Going again tomorrow night

We enjoyed her very much tonight as well. She still sounds and looks great. It was wonderful to hear all of her Mo-Town hits again.
As a performer, she's a little over-the-top to be one of my favorites, but it was still a nice night. Although the orchestra performed first, she was able to fit in 4 dress changes...the City of LA must be out of sequins... Her fashion sense seems caught in a 70's time warp, but then again it fits right in with the music. But geez, stop smiling at the audience when you're singing of heartache.
Minor quibbles though...she is a legend and it was amazing to us that she still sounded and looked so good.
Looking forward to the Les Mis concert.

Funny.. didn't see her smiling at the audience when she was singing of heart break ( and I am assuming you mean the "Lady Sings The Blues" section). And we were right up front. Last night she cut two of my favorite songs from her act because of the areas 11 p.m. curfew. It 's My Turn and My Man. The Philarmonics numbers could have been cut in half to allow the diva more time to sing.. after all.. that is who we are there to see. And her gowns were beautiful.. Sorry. I don't agree with you.. they were not caught in the 70's at all. They were so glamorous... She is 66.. What is it you want her to wear? Bob Mackie did a great job. Great show. Can't wait to see it again tonight.

Does she still perform "Home" from The Wiz, or no?
She didn't do it last night. but she did a great version of Ease on down the road. bet she sings more tonight since the areas curfew is one hour later on Saturdays.

Why does Hollywood have a curfew? Is it just for minors or what?
The Hollywood Bowl is surrounded by a residential area in the hills. On week days any show must be down by 11. On Saturday nights midnight. That is why when they say show starts at 8. It starts right at 8. It is out of consideration for the people that live around there.

From her OC Register review:
"Cut to her likeable but by no means spectacular performance Friday at the Hollywood Bowl, her first of two nights at the venerable venue this weekend – and now I just don't know what to think. My kinder side wants to view it as a pleasant evening of nostalgic entertainment. But my critical side can't help but notice the flaws – how hoarse she was in her mid-range, how many times her voice cracked, how it all felt like Vegas plastic, not the sort of crowning achievement one expects from a star of her caliber in such an auspicious headlining stint."
He also mentions her dresses..the red one he describes as "over-the top" and all having so many sequins you could probably see her from "the dark side of the moon."
A fair review I think even though I don't agree 100% with him..he does mention the audience reaction..http://www.ocregister.com/articles/diana-ross-hollywood-2105578-bowl-lady
I didn't see an LA Times review.
