i'm guessing amazon will have the dvds of the movies you're looking for. or half.com is really good for finding movies and cds and books and stuff for cheaper, mostly in great condition. yay for online shopping!!!

I think it's a great idea.
Instead of children growing up, never having seen movies like The Wizard of Oz (believe me, I know several) or other classics, Disney opens theirs up to new generations, without being passed down like heirlooms.
Bambi is coming to DVD. This means that most of parents will be buying this 50 year old movie (I'm guessing that's the age) and showing them to their children for the first time.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I guess it's a good idea, but it's just annoying for kids like me who grew up on them and owned them and then switched to DVD and now have to wait till they're 35 to see them again.

the only problem i have with the way disney releases their films on DVD is that they first release the movie, then put it on a moratarium. then a couple of years later they re-release that same title with some added features, then that release goes on moratarium. then a couple of years later the title is re-released yet again in a supposed special "super duper deluxe edition to end all editions" edition.

bottom line: it's outright GREED.

as much as i love some of these movies, unless i really really have to have it i'll stick to most of the original dvd versions of these classics. i'm not one to have 4 or 5 different versions of ANY MOVIE lying around the house.

Yup, I grew up with the Disney movies and HAD to get B&TB, Aladdin and Lion King platinum editions, I'm sooo excited for Mermaid, my favorite Disney movie! But I too got a little squashed with the special editions, I bought the Mary Poppins DVD a while ago and then they came out with the 40th anniv. DVD. I couldn't bear to spend more money on a DVD I already had, so I rented the 40th Anniv. edition to watch the features. I wish they'd make some deal where you can trade in your old DVD and pay a bit to get the new one...oh well.

I worked for Disney...Ya'll don't realize exactly how greedy Disney is. What you see is minimal compared to what goes on behind closed doors.
I do have to say, as much as I depise their greed (Thanks Mr. Eisner!) I think they are one of the greatest source of entertainment we have. As much as I wish I could hate them for having screwed me and many other employees over, I just can't.

I wonder if the Disney corporation donated any money to the Tsunami relief efforts...

Justice, that's awful. I just think it's really sad and slightly disgusting when you think about everything Walt himself stood for and believed in. He created Disneyland not as a money-making cow, but as a place where parents could take their children and so the parents could have fun. He got the idea for Winnie the Pooh movies because he read the books to his children.

I am so Disney's b*tch. I had all the movies on video when I was younger, now I'm starting to get them all on DVD too (Amazon.com's used listings usually have them).

And I know in 10 years, I'll spend tons more money buying them in capsule form, or whatever version they'll have for watching movies in the future. They're great movies and I'm glad that one day, my children will be able to watch them as well.

Justice, care to share any anecdotes about how greedy Disney is from the inside? We all know how greedy the company is from a consumer point of view, but the insider scoop would be nice!

I was surprised they wouldn't at least keep the Orlando studio as it's also a tourist attraction.

Brilliant marketing by Disney. Just *another* way for Disney to make money.

I love Disney movies and have nearly all the videos but have started buying the DVDs as well, so I was looking around for what's been released on DVD. Alice in Wonderland was also released just recently over here, so have you guys got that yet?

J'ai compris tous les mots, j'ai bien compris, merci.............
