Posted: 6/21/06 at 11:06amThe Haunted Mansion is called "The Haunted Manor" in Paris. I believe it tells the story of a bride who was deserted at the altar. I say "I believe" because the narration was given in French. Although I speak French, I am not fluent in the language and have to listen carefully. When I was visiting the attraction, there were about a dozen Muslim children who were screaming when the walls started to "stretch".

Posted: 6/21/06 at 1:11pmUpdating Disney’s rides really makes sense, and it proves that they have seen what they have been doing over at Universal. While Disney’s animatronics are widely superior to those at Universal, the effects at Universal are really impressive. As the effects evolve the rides must too.

Here's a fascinating site dedicated to all of Disney's Haunted Mansions that some of you might be interested in...

Alright, get ready for a rant from an Uncle Walt deciple...
Why the hell would they revamp a classic ride? It was the last ride that their founder and visionary leader supervised and it is considered the masterpiece of Theme Park attractions. I just don't get why Disney wastes their time revamping timeless classics like Pirates, Haunted Mansion and others instead of coming up with new rides and shows.

Posted: 6/21/06 at 3:03pmThey do both. The ride needs the makeover. Even on days when the park is jammed packed you can get in on this ride with no wait.. because people have lost interest. And the ride itself is boring. It needs it. I am sorry.. but they are doing the right thing by keeping up with the times.

Glebb---If you want to overdose on the park music (as I sometimes do), there is a terrific multi-disc CD box set released last year that has virtually ALL the music in the park that ever was or has been.
Old stuff like "America Sings," the electric parade, and the original Frontierland train ride. Plus multiple versions of several attractions like the Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World (original version and "holiday" version), etc. They have everything (or nearly everything).
A veritable aural orgy of Disney delights! And the hardbound book that comes with it is great too.

Posted: 6/21/06 at 3:57pmi understand why they are making it over. but i'm kinda mad, it has been my mom's favorite ride there since she was a kid, and i have always loved it. plus, i thought it was cool that my mom rode it all the time when she was my age.

*sigh*
Don't they have a DVD player?
One would hope they would venture into that "netherworld" before they were born.

That would take too much work, apparently.
I always saw Pirates as the "ultimate" Disneyland ride...I can understand monetarily why they are upgrading it, but sentimentality for what I remember clouds my acceptance of their decision.

I know this Swiss Family Robinson, but I'm 14, so I don't know if that counts.
I have to say that Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyworld has also been my favorite ride. When I went to Disney in March and saw the sign closed for renovations I got a little worried. But Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite movie, so I am very interested to see how Disney will incorporate it.
Though, am I crazy when thinking that the ride had been a little renovated before. Because I remember there used to be little like rapid type jump things you would go down sometime during the ride, but I think they got rid of them.

They had a segment on the E! Channel during their red carpet coverage of the POTC2 premiere tonight where 2 of the actors who played pirates went through the ride. They showed the Davy Jones "waterfall" and several versions of the animatronic Capt. Jack Sparrow, which looked and moved rather lifelike, or at least not so stiff as those things used to.
It's one of my all time favorite rides at Disney World, along with....I forget what it was called...it was a big round building and it showed what family life was like in various decades, including some space age future (which now, if it was around, would probably be old, too). I think it was GE sponsored. I just liked it because the "show" was a good 30-45 mins and it was cool. A great place to take a break and rest and escape the Florida heat for a while.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 1:43amI find this news bittersweet. Though I LOVE the old ride, a change should be nice. I can't help but wonder what Raul Esparza thinks of this news, seeing as how he's a major WDW nerd.

I was just rereading my post about the Carousel of Progress and must clarify that when I said it was cool, I didn't mean it was kinda neat or hip, it just had great air conditioning.
It was actually quite kitschy.

I agree. If they TOUCH The Haunted Mansion, I will be a very angry red head.
And since someone mentioned Aliens Encounter, does anyone remember the demonstration that occured before you went into the main attraction site? They showed how they transport aliens, and they used an adorable peachy-pink alien called Skippy. I fell in love with that critter when I was in seventh grade and purchased a stuffed one. It used to be so soft, but I'v carried that thing everywhere. Even to college, so now it's very worn. I was so sad to see that ride go.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 2:10amHAH! The comments about the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House remind me of a video my parents have of me walking up the steps of it and I triped on one of th stairs. I know it doesn't sound funny, but believe me, a 6 year old me tripping on one of those steps and having it on video is priceless.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 2:58amAlien Encounter scared the life out of me when I went. I didn't think that Skippy was cute, I thought it was creepy. I also remember hiding in my mom's jacket for the entirety of the Haunted Mansion ride.
