I turn mine off when I am done with it at night and usually during the day it stays off. I don't want to run the energy bill by leaving it on, I save that for when I can do it at school, but not at home.
i honestly think it depends on the computer... I had a computer that HATED to be turned off, and my new one cant seem to operate without being turned off.

Wow, I always thought Americans were very energy conscious. (they were when I lived there in the seventies) What happened?
I never leave any appliance running unneccessarily, the waste...

At work, every night before I leave. At home, rarely.
At work I log off and let the screen just go black; however I shut it down for weekends.
At home I usually leave it on, except when I am on vacation or gone for extremely long periods of time in the day.
At school it is usually on all the time.
you people make al gore cry.
Any appliance that is shut off but plugged in is still using energy. If you turn things off just to save energy, you're really not doing much of anything.
score! so i DON'T have to close my fridge every time i'm done looking for food? it takes so long and is soooooooo annoying. now i can just leave it open. think of all the time i'll save!
Exactly, Robb. Exactly.
I turn mine off everynight and leave it on all day.
What Papa was suggesting I think are called Power Vampires. Sell phone chargers, VCRs, anything that you leave plugged in is sucking electricty.
Computers SHOULD be shut down when not in use. This does not harm the machine. If you are connected to a network, (like at work) it is important to power down every night so you reestablish a connection with the network. If there is any server maitenance you wont be affected.
It is ridiculous how much electricity is wasted in this country.
I've read that shutting it down all the time can be a bit detrimental to the computer, but I'm not sure....
I put mine in standby when not in use, it's in a lower energy state, so it isn't THAT big of a deal.
