Does Anyone Here Meditate?#1

It's something I have been thinking about doing. I just don't know how. Is it something you can learn from a book or do I need to see someone who can teach me? Would love to hear from anyone here who meditates regularly.

I just started a ten-week meditation class this week! I would say definitely invest in the meditation cushion that you sit on...it's filled with buckwheat hulls and is MUCH more comfortable than sitting on a regular pillow.

There are many forms of meditation.

I would recommend reading David Lynch's book on transcendental meditation, CATCHING THE BIG FISH, if you are at all interested in the topic. He is one of the foremost advocates of the practice and the "vice-pope" in the church/order of transcendental meditation. He is currently filming a documentary on it, as well.

I'm all too familiar with Transcendental Meditation. The technique itself is good, but you should be careful about getting caught up in the "TM Movement."

Thanks for the replies. I thought at first it was just slowing down and controlling your breathing,but have discovered there is much more to it. Would I go somewhere they teach Yoga to learn a basic meditation technique? Eventually, I would like to start Yoga but have really wanted to try meditating for some time now. Romantico, I found this class through my township's adult education classes they offer at the high school...do you have something like that in your town?

They also have this place in my town called the Won Institute that offers meditation classes for just $5 a class.

Thanks Danmag. Yeah,we do. As a matter of fact I have seen a long list of classes from do it yourself home repair to computer and cooking classes there. I'm really excited to start this. Many thanks again!
