I want to apply and there are no age restrictions - that would be agism. What chance do I stand?

Aren't they pretty generous with benefits? You're going to have competition with older kids, college students, and maybe even unemployed grads. I guess it depends on the employment market for young and unskilled workers in your area, but I wouldn't count on it. Especially because, at least where I'm from, employment rules are funny until you turn 16.
You don't want to work at Starbucks. TRUST ME.

I WANTED A MOCACHINO LATTE WITH HALF SOY HALF SKIM YOU NITWIT ARGH
Also, charges of ageism are usually brought by older employees, not young ones, on the grounds that younger workers are often hired and retained because they're cheaper and easier to boss around than older ones.

Undi is correct. Check your state's laws regarding workers who are minors. Restrictions are sometimes, the number of hours one can work, but these vary state-to-state. Or you might be required to have a working permit.
Also, regardless of your age, you should know the difference between brewed, filtered, latte, peppermint latte, cappuccino, espresso, doppio, soy latte, flavor of the day, and other Starbucksspeak. And, how to steam milk. And, all with a
Good luck.

I once heard this crazy law that stated 12 year olds could have a work permit. I don't know where it applied (or applies), but it's nuts.

Gav, some families need their kids' income. Sad, but true. Besides, I've been working since I was 14, and I haven't exactly been scarred for life. :)

Yep, I started working at 12. I mopped the floors every night at a little convenience store/market just down the street from my house when I was a kid. He paid me $5.00 a night under the table.
$35 a week was good money when you're 12 in 1990.
From 14 until 18, I worked in a "Jiffy Lube-esque" place. Full time in the summer making around $7.50 an hour. That's amazing money with you have absolutely no bills. I grew up in a family that I wouldn't call poor, but we were definitely paycheck to paycheck so it helped.

I tried to get a job when I was 13 at a local grocery store...they had a computer for applications...I went to apply and it asked, "Are you 16 or over?" and I answered no...and it automatically kicked me off.
I worked at a Sear's garage for some time. GOOOOD pay. I think it was about $9-$15 an hour. And it was so fun. Got to change oil and tires and stuff...we had races...

I assume that Starbucks has a policy of not hiring anyone under 16. I am certain that most state laws would prohibit the hiring of a 15 year old to operate machinery which involves high pressure steam.
When I was 12 I cooked burgers and served food - so much for child labor laws!
CostumeMistress, I work at a Starbucks and I love it.
I actually don't know how old you have to be to apply at Starbucks, but I'm pretty sure it is 16 or 17.
I had my first Peppermint Mocha yesterday.
I HAVE LIVED!!!!!! YUM!!!!
But Taylor was busy.. Sucks to be me!
(You have to look like Cheno, to get free lattes)

Starbucks doesn't hire anybody under 18, sorry.
the question if you work at starbux (aka the deathstar) is "do you look good in green?"
i know that people under the age of 16 can't operate certain machinery in new york (dishwashers, etc) if you're 15 i bet you can get a job at DQ or bussing tables. when i was 15 i was a lifeguard at a local pool. i'm sure you'll find something you want to do. good luck!
In most states you have to be at least 16 to work in most companies, including Starbucks. The local Starbucks about an hour North of New York City, requires that kids be 17 before they will hire them, so there are obviously differences.
Jobs that are avaialble to 15 year olds sometimes include bus boy jobs and the like. You will have to wait to get into the big green.

In NJ, at least, you can start working at age 14 under certain restricted conditions. But I doubt a Starbucks would want to put up with that, unless they have a need for temporary holiday employees or something. Easier to hire someone who's 16, or better yet, a college student.

I got hired by my city as a lifeguard at age 15 - that's the minimum age requirement of the Red Cross, so the city accepted it as well...
In Texas, I couldn't get an "on the books" job till I was 16--and then it was sackin' groceries! I think you'll enjoy having a job--it'll change your life.
"Starbucks doesn't hire anybody under 18, sorry."
I was hired by Starbucks right after I turned 17.
So there.

I was just going by the "Help Wanted" signs I see in Starbucks that say, "Must be 18 or older". I've seen said signs in Starbucks' in NY, NJ, and PA.

Working at Starbucks is not like it's portrayed in "Taylor, the Latte Boy". Trust me on that one.

They may need someone who can work closing shifts. I work at a Starbucks in PA, but I cannot work a late shift since I am a minor.
