Does the majority that post here on the OT board have any interest in Broadway anymore?

re: Does the majority that post here on the OT board have any interest in B

I have a huge interest in broadway, but since I live in the middle of no where it is rare for me to see a show so I feel like I have little to contribute to that board unless I have something new that I have seen or heard. I lurk over there and post here. re: Does the majority that post here on the OT board have any interest in B

oh. ok.

Well. I'm not going to discriminate between young and old or professional and non-professional or performer and audience member. I do NOT look at things on that board that way.

What I DO see over there is mature and immature, educated and ignorant, respectful and disrespectful.

Some discussions are fascinating. But, most are annoying. I don't even click on 90% of those threads. I can't look at another topic on Wicked or Rent or what have you (and I do like those shows). I can't get obsessed about performers in that way. I can't argue about what acting and unions and creating REALLY is all about with people who THINK they know it all and those who CAN NOT think outside the box.

I enjoy being a mentor at times to the young BWWers. I enjoy discussions that do stay on the level. But, I prefer having theatre discussions in person.

And, sometimes--I just don't want to talk shop. I want to hang with theatre people and talk about ANYthing else. Hmmm That's prob the MAIN reason lol

I am just as interested in all things theatre. However, as I live a long way from New York, I do not always have the requisite knowledge to add to Main Board threads.

So, I read the Main Board and take part in the OT board.

Well...
I have to say that since I moved to Cali, my interest in the Broadway message board has diminished (sp?)
I have also had very little time on the puter, being that I'm still settling in, and when I come onto my BWW, the only thing that interests me at this point that is relative, is the OT board.
However, my interest in theatre has not diminished (sp again?). I still love it just as much as the next Jew (no offense Jews), and will continue to make constant trips back to NYC to see B'way shows. Until then, I will survive througfh community theatre and Regional, overdosing as much as I possibly can...and since there is no Regional or (thank God) Community theatre message board, the OT suits me just fine.
Thank you.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Yes, VERY much so, but how many times can you answer:
-what show have you seen the most?
-what is your dream cast for a certain show?
-what show should someone see when they come to new york?
-what is your favorite song?
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I only post on the Main Board when I have something worthwhile to say (or when someone posts something particularly annoying or stupid and I can't help but jump into the fray). I'm more "at home" on this board where I have much more to say, although it is not necessarily something that is worthwhile...

Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over

I think much of the NY theater posting concerns the current season, and the most compelling threads are generally those about the success of a new show, or even more often, a new interpretation.

Look at the really intelligent, and thought-provoking debates that took place over the casting/directing of this year's STREETCAR (and MENAGERIE), and the general debate about the VIRGINIA WOOLF. There was a real reason to join those discussions after we all saw the shows. By July, the season is September-focussed. In my experience, the people who post on those subjects generally are different from the strictly fan-based threads.

I'm not dissing fans, and have great respect for a forum that lets young theater goers express themselves so openly about an art form. I'll also take an old fart moment to invite them to read some of the more stimulating threads noted above. Even strictly musical theater junkies can learn a great deal here. In my two years, I've realized what an extraordinary range of theater-going experience is represented at this site. We fight, we argue, but there's generally a level of respect when it we get into more nuanced debates (say, the John C. Reilly Stanley)The best posters, and reviewers, place their ideas and opinions in a more historical context. Read the opinions, and learn a lot. End of old fart moment.

I'm with jrb....I just find that the Main Board is quite limited in its scope. I also have nothing to add to Rent or Wicked posts either. Nothing against the shows, I'm just not motivated.

Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over

I'm mostly with the people that read the main board, and post over here...it's a lot more fun to me than talking about my dream Wicked cast for the 1700th time. (I'm not even that fond of Wicked)
Anyway... unless there's something on the main board that's news or something new about a show, I get bored very easily.

Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over

I seem to post evenly on all three boards. If a thread just interest me, I'll take a peek. If it turns out to just be outrageous and I've GOT to say something, I will. But most of the time, I'll try to put something in.
This is my signature.

Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over

I post on the message board when I read threads that I feel I can participate in. Since I have not seen any shows on bway and only 3 shows on tour, I can't chime in too many times. On the off topic board, there are more threads that I can contribute to. And I will always love bway (even though I have never been....damn being poor!!!!)

THREAD JACK IN PROGRES.....THREAD JACK IN PROGRESS

Well, until recently I did not have internet (I still technically do not have internet, but that is another thread topic) but I should be on more often now. And the misses is doing just fine. She is off making the benjamins, while I sit on my butt enjoying my day off. SWEET!!!!

How are you doing my brotha'?
