Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over

I think we should all follow robbiej's lead and end the title of a thread with "--a discussion"

That way we'll know that it is a serious attempt by one of us to discuss something. A way to find these threads easier.

I just started a thread on Merrily We Roll Along...

Most of the young kids have no clue what that is, therefore, my hopes it will be an adult discussion...
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Or we can just have all the children killed.

"The wild adorations and the thinly veiled 'Well...if you don't like it, you obviously don't GET serious musicals' subtext is enough to make me live in a well of hate."

I've noticed this becoming a prevailing attitude from a lot of people about any show that they, personally love. You call Lennon a jukebox musical or express some misgivings about the format? You obviously don't understand the message. You say you thought Brooklyn kind of sucked? You're just too stupid to see it's beauty. Or my favorite: you didn't like x, y, or z musical? You are obviously an elitist who hates fun.

It's getting very old!

yoda, exactly........I get tired of people who either put someone down for liking a musical they do not, OR......constantly post about the same musical over and over and over...........

Remember being that young?

I remember ooing over Evita! I did Funny Girl in high school and had never heard of it!!! How lame is that?

Still, agree that it is annoying to read questions about shows that have recently closed like they are legendary!

I have to say, it can be hard. Cause there are just some musicals that are plain bad. Badly produced, badly written and badly performed. Just awful. But still...you can find someone who'll love it and so you have to be careful not to step on toes.

I read the main board before I read the OT board, but usually I do find more things I want to comment here, especially since I haven't really seen anything from this past season. It's also because there's a much wider range of topics, as opposed to strictly theater.

I wonder if the reason so many threads on the main board are about Wicked etc. is because all the people that want to see other threads aren't starting them and are just letting the Wicked/Piazza fans overrun the board.

kittles, I'm thinking that Wicked has done for Broadway what Harry Potter did for reading. So many teenage girls discovered Wicked, who had not been into live musical theater before, so in that case it's a good thing as people discover musical theater.......I just get tired of it being the end-all for them.

I totally agree with you there, I get annoyed when people join BWW knowing nothing about musical theater outside Rent and Wicked, and don't want to bother exploring anything else. It's like BWW could use a "If you like this show, try:____" listing. I enjoyed Wicked for what it was worth, but it's nowhere near my favorite show and definitely not the only thing I want to talk/read about. I think it's just the teenage-girl mentality: latch onto whatever's big and become obsessed. (*whistles innocently and twirls hair, remembering 'N Sync posters wallpapering bedroom walls*)

BTW, I don't know if it was a typo, but you're the first person to call me kittles Seasonal fluctuations -- the season is over
