Thanks for the spoilers - I don't have any problems with knowing things in advance.
Very excited for what they're going to do With Ms MacLaine's character - she looks absolutely right for this.
It would be so much better if they filmed this during Summer rather than early March, when it's still cold and rainy.
I think they shoot until April or May so hopefully they can fit in some beautiful Spring scenery into the show. What I hate is the long delay but HBO does the same thing with shows like BOARDWALK EMPIRE and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM.
Saw this and just and just had to post it.

Just catching up on this thread---the Emmy miniseries thing has always been kinda bull****, IMHO. The show was created in the UK with the intention of being three seasons, and though PBS' funding hbas been fairly minor, they surely knew that and I doubt considered they wouldn't carry it (unless it was a disastrous flop--but that hasn't stopped some of their previous Masterpiece series). That link says "After starting out as a miniseries, 'Downton Abbey' caught fire and so now it moves over to drama series category as it plans for future TV seasons," TV academy awards chief John Leverence tells Gold Derby. "It follows the trajectory of previous shows like The Starter Wife". But The Starter Wife did legitimately start as a miniseries... It's really not the same. (Though I understand where ther emay some issue with these shows having so much fewer episodes than American network tv shows).
More Downton Abbey silliness!!

Caught up on Season 1 two weeks ago Friday on a friend's Netflix, and was hooked. Marathon viewing until I finished at 3 AM. Then I was on a mission to watch Season 2. I'm not one to buy shows on DVD, but luckily when I asked a friend if he had it, that reminded him buying the DVD's was on his to do list. So voila! I had Season 2 in my greedy hands that Saturday night. This past weekend, I had a couple mini marathons of viewing. Now, I'm sad that I'm all caught up and Season 3 is months away! I love it!
I just came across this.

I'm sad that Netflix only has season 2 on disk and not streaming while season 1 is available both ways. I don't want to wait
The latest DOWNTON ABBEY Parody by Jimmy Fallon is BRILLIANT!

There are a couple of great laughs in that. Thanks for sharing.

Well, she's in for the duration of season 3. Maybe they will end it after 3?

Now all the sites are reporting that they're backtracking away from those comments, but really, even if Smith didn't want to leave, common sense suggests that the Countess will be dead eventually. They've spanned eight years over the course of two series.
I don't think Maggie or anyone thought the show would go on this long. Couldn't they just cut her appearances? Have her appear in 2-3 episodes?I can't help think there is a way to accommodate Maggie.I hope the series does not go on and on and on and on. Maybe 1 or 2 more seasons and that's it.
The wait is over!
Episode II of Downton Sixbey. I laughed so hard!

Fallon is at his best IMHo when they do their show satires--and I'm glad I randomly caught this live since hulu won't allow Canada to view its contents. Absolutely brilliant! (Although I didn't get the running joke of Jimmy almost dying as he says he'll die there--something I don't remember from the show... Otherwise). Brooke Shields was almost as great as Kim Catrall in the BBC satire.
Some major spoilers RE: Downton Abbey series 3 has surfaced.I won't post here but anyone can Google and see for themselves. I guess they have finished filming and the producers are planning series 4 by now. January can't come fast enough for me!

Thanks for that!
It looks like they're heading down the Krystle and Alexis route rather than looking at the influence that American women brought to UK society at that time.
Expect to see them slog it out in the abbey fish ponds.

That silly speech pattern of Elizabeth McGovern was a character choice?
When I heard they were debuting footage the other night, I admit I was hoping for a little more than a 30-second snippet; I was actually hoping for a full preview/trailer. Oh well- I suppose that'll come soon enough. In any case delighted to see even this little bit and can't wait until January!
Downton people are at the TCA's in California this week and it sounds like some interesting things are happening. A couple of Tweets:
"@lauinla: TV critics NEVER applaud at the press tour, but apparently Downton is the (well-deserved) exception to the rule. #TCAs12"
"Oh, Mr. Bates. These #DowntonAbbey clips are killing it. The critics are cheering & applauding, which does.Not. Happen. Here. #TCAs12 #PBS"
"Also, Maggie Smith & Shirley MacLaine's scenes look like they're going to be highly quotable, to put it mildly. #TCAs12 #DowntonAbbey"
edited to add this one:
"Shirley MacLaine on Maggie Smith: "We were lovers in another life." #Downton #TCAs12"
Edited again:
"Destined to be THE verbal boxing match of 2013: Shirley MacLaine v. Maggie Smith in @masterpiecepbs's @DowntonAbbey in Jan. #TCAs12 @PBS"

When does this debut in the UK? I thought it was September or October. Shouldn't we be seeing a trailer by now?
Haven't seen anything about its UK premier. Edited to add article I found says UK premiere in September.
Here's another tweet. Wish there was a photo with this one:
"Hugh Bonneville strips on stage, reveals "FREE BATES" t-shirt under his suit. #DowntonAbbey #TCAs12"

Why is this not airing here at the same time? With the internets the way they are, we'll all be watching online the second they air over there anyways.
