They've just started filming, so I expect the UK will get in sometime in the autumn.
I,too cried at the stuff relating to Bates, and laughed at the "Do you promise" comment from The Dowager Countess.
I also loved Lord Grantham's 'speech' to Mary, after they discussed Mr. Pamuk. I had tears in my eyes, while I smiled.
"I don't want my daughter to be married to a man who threatens her with ruin. I want a good man for you. A brave man. Find a cowboy in the middle West and bring him back to shake us up a bit."
Okay, now that you have all seen it, didn't it bother you that the lawyers knew things in the courtroom that really only the TV viewer and they people being asked the questions should know? How would they know about a private conversation between Mr. Bates and Robert? How would they have specific details of the conversation between Mr. & Mrs. Bates, when only Mrs. Hughes overheard it and then passed it on to Carson and Robert? It really took me out of the drama.
I am so in love with this show. I can't wait until series 3 begins. I read it would be September. I hope Lady Sybil comes back.
I really wish Julian would shut up sometimes. Still this is an interesting read: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/julian-fellowes-overcomes-his-scruples-and-looks-back-at-season-2-of-downton-abbey/?ref=arts
And I knew Sir Richard Carlisle was not long for the Downton world. he needed to get back to Game of Thrones where he belongs.

I think the UK will get it before we do, which likely means it won't be on in the U.S. until January 2013.

I am SO upset about Bates. Brendan Coyle has one of the kindest faces I think I have ever seen. Happy about the outcome for one of the couples, though. (Don't want to use spoilers for those who haven't "caught up" yet.)

The Best Maggie Moments
I saw the first episode last night...I'm HOOKED!!!
"didn't it bother you that the lawyers knew things in the courtroom that really only the TV viewer and they people being asked the questions should know?"
This was another thing (after the appearance of the possible heir in a mask from Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy movie) that I felt really dumbed down the second series.
"I hope Sybil comes back too"
CONJECTURE ALERT
You can be sure that the situation with Branson being an Irish socialist has been designed to blow up in everyone's face in the early 1920s, when much of the Irish war of independence took place. I expect Sybil to be carrying a rifle.
Scripps, are you now giving people spoilers for series three before it even airs? Bad! (It is funny, didn't that anooty columnist who objected so strongly to Downton Abbey complain that in "reality" Sybil would be already far more militant?)
I admit, the deformed amnesiac plot didn't bother me, but maybe it was just a symptom of my withdrawal from over the top soap opera with All My Children's cancelation--I know it bothered a lot of people. It was disappointing that it didn't really go anywhere so seems kinda a waste (I suppose more could still happen with the story--or maybe after audience reaction they'll just drop it). On the other hand the court stuff did bother me, although I suppose it at least had some dramatic payoff. In that interview above, Julian Fellowes claims to be a huge Glee fan--maybe it's rubbing off on his writing and lack of consistency...
Just finished season 2. The Brits need to get over this "7 episodes a season" B.S. they're known for. Ain't no damn reason they can't do a full 23 episodes a year. No damn reason at all.
So, does anyone think that guy was really Patrick? The guy's face is burnt and covered with bandages and he can't understand why no one recognizes him.
Any thoughts on who killed the ex Mrs. Bates? I have a friend who thinks Ms.O'Brien is somehow involved.
When will season 3 take place? I would have loved seeing Mary's family react to the news of her and Matthew. This is Downton Abbey so season three could open two years after the last scene from season 2.
If they're already filming it won't take long before gossip and script leaks start surfacing around the internet.
I dunno, they managed to do a good job protecting against script leaks last season.
Fellowes' original plan was three years--pre War, during the War and post War--so I assume Season 3 will be 1919-1921 ish. Of course that could change now that it's set for more seasons.
Another great season.
The only disappointment being the unresolved Patrick storyline - it was just odd.
The whole courtroom thing didn't really bother me, maybe I'm just too dumb to spot the holes - but I found myself kinda hoping that Bates would be executed...my bad, I know - I guess I've had enough of his self-pity, and I don't fully buy the whole grand love affair between him and Anna. I hope that it turns out he actually DID kill the wife (by accident?)...I don't want a happy ending for Bates and Anna in the same way I want one for Mary and the ever-increasingly lovely Matthew.
How could you not want Bates and Anna to be together??? They're destined to be one of the great romances of our time.
And I have a very strong feeling the Patrick storyline is far from over.

They just don't seem a very well-matched couple to me. Maybe they're destined to be one of the great romances, but I'm hoping for more of a Romeo and Juliet style eventual ending, whereas with Matthew and Mary I would be devastated if they did not grow old together with hordes of grandchildren sitting contentedly at their feet.
I just over Bates. I'm off to youtube the clip of Thomas kicking his cane and making him fall.
I'm really hoping next season Shirley MacLaine kicks Thomas in the balls before headbutting him and kicking him off the roof of Downton.
Agree!
Count me among the fans of Bates and Anna.
Agree that the Patrick storyline isn't over.
And am looking forward to watching Thomas get his ass kicked - whenever and wherever it may happen.
You don't think him losing all his money was his comeuppance?
He seems to be on the right track with Lord Grantham, so I imagine it will take another dastardly deed to bring him down.
Awww Thomas just needs the love of a good man. Preferably one who doesn't commit suicide.
No, Thomas is nonredeemable. O'Brian has had her moments, so she's not longer in the same boat, as far as I am concerned.
I am a BIG time member of team Bates/Anna. That's the payoff I need. I am very happy about Mary and Matthew, but it's all about the downstairs love for me.
I think Mrs. Bates killed herself. I think she knew the information she now had was useless. She had this ridiculous desire to control Bates and he wasn't having that anymore. She saw this as the ultimate payback. She wrote a letter to her friend that set him up and then killed herself. Sure, O'Brian could be involved or several others, but that can't be revealed without losing another central character.
And then there is always the late ex Mrs.Bates lover. No one seems to think that he (or she) could be another suspect we have not yet met.
