Posted: 2/21/13 at 12:28pmI went to school in Jamaica and know the area fairly well and I'm pretty sure you can get cash back with your EBT card there. You can where I live now anyway. So maybe you can't buy cigarettes and booze with the card directly, but there's nothing stopping people from getting cash back and then buying whatever the heck they want with it.

Not only that but people transfer their EBT food to other people for cash, which they then can use to get whatever they want. "I'll let you buy $50 in food from my EBT card if you'll give me $35 in cash."
That sort of deal.

As if that wasn't news already.
Anyway, you CAN NOT buy liquor/cigs with EBT. A good friend of mine worked at a store, and day one on the job they were told by the manager that they were not to let people buy those particular items with EBT cards (which they wouldn't be able to anyway I believe)
And the funny thing is, people like Mikey/Abby go on and on about how people who are on food stamps "use" the system. But for the entire period of time they worked at that store, the people using those benefits were people we both knew from my community who were hard working people who were buying nothing but groceries for their families at home.
