Excellent speech.

Will all the others be posted, also?
There have been some moving moments in many of them.

Just fantastic, one of my favorite moments of the night.

Just... a gorgeous, moving speech. Brought me to tears. Made me very proud to be a gay man.

Every voice that stands up to be heard counts! :)

I couldn't help but think what it would have been like to hear a speech like that when I was sitting with my family in the 70's watching the Oscars. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure what the reaction would have been.

And I have to admit a little sadness that I'm sure there are still households where the reaction was similar.

But thank goodness we have at least reached a point where a young gay person watching a national broadcast can see and hear their lives being validated. And may it give them strength.

I watched the Oscars with my "conservative, Mormon family" last night. This moment was amazing for me. I have only been out since December and the room went silent during this speech.

I cried during that moment. One of my very best friends just came out this year, and I want him to be able to live a full life so badly.... it was nice to see that represented.

"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

It was the best speech of the night. Congratulations to Mr. Black. May this be the first of many Academy Awards for you.

CMoore - if you wouldn't mind sharing, what happened after the speech?

This speech was sooooo beautiful and poignant <3

for sure one of the highlights of the night. And I generally don't pay that much attention to the non acting awards!

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Q... Well, my mom and the rest of my family were really nice and open with me the rest of the night. Nothing was said directly about the speech, until...

My sister was saying she was glad Sean Penn won but that he still kind of bothers her. My mom(staunch Mormon mother) then said that she loved Black's speech and how nice it was. So that was pretty amazing for me.

CMoore - that goes a little bit in the direction of proving the point that exposure is the necessary step in this evolution.

I'm happy that you had that kind of experience, and will try not to dwell on what might have happened in other households.

And I must say again, thank you to those willing to speak out and be heard.

I absolutely love this speech, my favorite of the night.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
