"He sends me the loveliest e-mails," said John. "What I get from Rush privately and what I get from Rush publicly are two different things. I'm just trying to break him down."

I can just picture their darling afternoons in the garden. "More tea, Polly Prissypants?

Yes. Rush Limbaugh IS a hypocritical bastard, earning Millions espousing beliefs he finds repugnant. No news there.

Looks like another Donald Spoto book on the way. "Rush Letters On John".

Rush Limbaugh never voted for Ronald Reagan. I wish he'd talk about that more on his show.
While I understand that pundits' actual personalities may very from their on-air personae, I can't figure out how someone can be friends with anyone who profits from such vitriol.
It reminds me of the "constructive engagement" debates surrounding divestment from S. Africa on my university campus in the 1980s. Remain engaged (invested) and support a purely evil government, but be in a position to have a voice and work to improve things or express your contempt and try to cripple a purely evil government by divesting entirely.
I was always a proponent of divestment--I haven't got the patience or the stomach to engage in a civil dialogue with people whose stated beliefs are so utterly repellent to me.
But my contempt for Rush Limbaugh is of no matter to the man. Assuming this news article isn't a joke piece from 'The Onion' then maybe Elton is a more patient and thoughtful man than I and can do some good.

Rush was a pretty liberal, pot smoking draft dodger named Jeff Christie,. He was rock n roll DJ who was out of a job. He was offered a show in Sacramento California on a right-wing station and Rush Limbaugh emerged. When given the chance to go into syndication, his overloads wanted a more edgy, out-there persona so he amped it up- Feminazis, Hilary's cankles, and murder accusations flowed freely.
Amazing what people will do for money.

First off, I never knew he was once called Jeff Christie. But the thing I just read when I looked that up was that off-mic he would "share his conservative beliefs" with the other people at his station.

It was his radio name. He comes from a legal family in Missouri. I think his father was a lawyer and his grandfather a judge.

It's a total Stephen King Christ-symbol kind of character name.

Yes. Rush is his given name- he is Rush Limbaugh III
He may have shared his conservative beliefs with his coworkers but in practice he appeared to be pro-marijuana, pro-unemployment benefits for unemployed deejays. He also is very pro-divorce.

A lot of people turn rabidly conservative once they get enough $$$$.
I mean, Glenn Beck used to do morning and afternoon radio shows in Tampa. And politics were rarely ever mentioned. He talked about stuff like putting a hamster in a bank drive-through vacuum tube.

Wasn't he hoovering up the blow like a Broadway chorus boy circa 1979 during that era?
