End of LITTLE CHILDREN...

I loved this movie and thought it was one of the best films of last year...but was I the only one who felt like there was a huge buildup the entire movie to some kind of an explosive ending and then it just kinda...ended. It didn't tie up any of the loose plot ends and just kinda left everything as it was...
I mean it could be symbolic of Todd and Sarah's realtionship not really ending or something to that effect...
What did you guys think?

Perfect ending.
It's not about the final product, it's about the journey. It's not about whether or not they end up together or continue to see each other - the point is that they had those thoughts and they caused each other to grow and mature. They realize it will never work, they suck it up, and move on. Like MADAME BOVARY, only she doesn't kill herself.

I had lukewarm feelings about this film until the very end. It was the saving grace of the film IMO.
Btw, I'm currently reading this novel.

Oh, I think the whole film is just brilliantly done.
The book is great. The ending of the book sheds some more light on their feelings.

A flaming car crash? Alien invasions? Or did you really expect them to just drive off and live happily ever after?

You know, at first I was disappointed in the finale. Then as I started to think about it I thought it was just my romantic side that wanted them to end up together, but when you think about it, they really could have never worked out, IMO.
I loved this film, I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than IN THE BEDROOM.

Posted: 6/10/07 at 12:27pmI agree munk; the book was spectacular. I liked it more than the movie and I thought the movie was incredibly well-done. Tom Perrotta is an amazing author. And I liked the ending to the book better than the movie ending. It was perfectly satirical and intelligent on so many different levels.

I enjoyed the film but it has one of the most disturbing scenes I have seen captured. It gives me chills just to think about it.

Posted: 6/20/07 at 9:07pmThis film is great because it offers many close-up shots of Kate Winslet's face and, thus, her GORGEOUS nose cartilage.

#11re: End of LITTLE CHILDREN...
Posted: 6/21/07 at 1:02amThe narration was a little off, I think, but I believe if this movie would have had a different title, it wouldn't have flopped. A brilliant film overall, but I'd have changed the title, "Little Children" sounds as if it was a movie for kids.

Gregg Edelman proves his talent once again, even with a supporting role.
The acting of this movie is extraordinary, everyone is terrific.
#13re: End of LITTLE CHILDREN...
Posted: 6/21/07 at 1:09amI think Edelman is a fine actor, but he doesn't do anything in this film worthy of that sort of proclamation...

I agree with Munk, Edelman was swell but he only had about three scenes that I can remember.
And muscle, I felt the title of the movie couldn't have been more appropriate. The film was just not well-publicized and it treated a theme that really most people don't really want to hear about. At no time did I feel I was watching a potential hit when I saw this, I just knew I was watching a mesmerizing, divine, exquisite movie with some of the best acting of the film season. Kate Winslet is my favorite actress of her generation, her versatility never fails to surprise me (even within the same film) and I'm glad Patrick Wilson keeps getting cast in these challenging, completely different roles, I would have given him an Oscar nod.
I thought this movie was better than IN THE BEDROOM and definitely deserved the Best Picture nod. Anyways, so off-topic.

Well, it MY opinion, the title doesn't appeal to me...at all!
And although Gregg Edelman has a few scenes, he is a natural in front of the camera, he is just perfection, the way he talks, the way he moves, even with a few lines, I find him to be fantastic, the same goes for Jennifer Connelly, she is in the film for a few scenes as well, yet, she is brilliant(and the prettiest actress in Hollywood)

I loved the narration, which added an unexpected layer of lightness the film very desperately needed. I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much without it. It would have just turned into another somber bleak look at dysfunctional surburban families. Yeah, I know already. All suburban families are f*cked up way worse than they allow themselves to appear, unlike the entire rest of the world. Blah blah blah... It's been done to death. I felt the ending was satisfying enough. Had it ended with the two characters going off blissfully together, I would have probably thrown the DVD out the window. I wanted the characters to be "happy", but to fix their own sh*t first at home (stay or go, but confront the situation and sort out what needs to be done), and then move on.
The movie was good, but I didn't think it was as incredibly fabulous as all the buzz lead me to believe. Did it deserve a Best Picture nod? Well, it was better than The Departed, but then, so were most of the films last year.

I loved The Departed, but oh well, going back to the topick, I also think the movie and Patrick Wilson deserved nominations.
He is a very versatile actor, and a lovely person, I will never forget one time, after Barefoot in the Park, he signed about 30 playbills for a group of girls, and then talked to me for a little while, a class act.

If you haven't been able to get your hands on a copy of "Little Children: The Shooting Script" book with script, comments and photos, here's a link to the joblo site which has the script itself. It's great to see what was planned and what ended up on screen, what is different, etc.
It's a pdf file of about 115 pages and the copy that was scanned has Tom Perotta and Todd Field's autographs.
