Evan Bayh - Will this homophobic bigot be Obama's VP choice?#1

Yet ANOTHER homophobe Obama is close to. Really makes it hard for me to support and vote for a man who does not think 'my kind' deserves the same rights as he does. This guy should not even be on Obama's list in my opinion.

to a constituent:

Dear X Xx :

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Marriage Protection Amendment to the United States Constitution. I appreciate your thoughts and concerns. Having been happily married for more than twenty years, this issue is important to me.

I do not support same sex marriage. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman. That is currently the law in Indiana and is currently the law nationally. I support the Defense of Marriage Act that prohibits federal recognition of same sex marriage and prevents Indiana from being forced to recognize same sex marriages performed in other states.

If you have been told that a judge has struck down Indiana 's law or our nation's law prohibiting same sex marriage, that is simply not true. These laws may never be invalidated. In fact, Indiana 's law prohibiting same sex marriage was recently upheld by our Court of Appeals.

The Constitution should not be amended unless absolutely necessary and should not be amended to deal with situations that are hypothetical and may not come to pass. In a bipartisan vote on June 7, 2006, the Senate agreed and decided not to consider the Constitutional amendment this year because it is premature. I supported that decision.

In the event that the courts do invalidate our state or national laws prohibiting same sex marriage, then a Constitutional amendment should be considered.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information I have provided is helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov , can provide additional details about legislation and state projects, and you can also sign up to receive my monthly e-newsletter, The Bayh Bulletin , by clicking on the link at the top of my homepage. I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

So you're also against Hillary Clinton, who's stand is pretty much identical to Bayh'?

To be fair, I can't think of any prominent Democrats who would have responded much differently.

On the HRC scale, Bayh scores in the high 80s -- same as Obama and Clinton.

Hillary is out, I am talking about Obama and his VP choice. All gays should know what they are in for. Both candidates suck when it comes to gays and our rights. Of course, they will tell us anything just to get elected.

Actually, their positions are very different. For example, McCain doesn't believe gays should be allowed to adopt. And while neither favors gay marriage, Obama favors granting full rights to gay couples, while McCain thinks a power of attorney is good enough.

Romantico you just don't get it do you? What Democratic leaders do you support? If Hillary was in this position she would have picked a running-mate with her EXACT stance on the issue.

"Homophobic"? I don't know if I would go that far but clearly these are spineless people that are not willing to stand up for true equality.

McCain also is against Gays in the military which to the best of my knowledge is government sanctioned discrimination.

Unfortunately we have to vote with the democracy we have not the one you want. If this is your sticking point, I can't for the life of me understand your support for Hillary Clinton. That woman has done very little for gay people. VERY LITTLE.

I am surprised at how many will simply overlook this. Disgusting!

Here is what he wrote:

"I do not support same sex marriage. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman."

Frankly, I want nothing to do with someone who dos not feel I am equal or deserve the same rights they have.

Why is everyone bringing Hillary into it? She is not the nominee and clearly not even a front runner for VP. This is about Obama and his VP choice.

Surprised at how lightly people are taking this.If Obama does get in what makes you so sure any Supreme Court Judges will be that different than who McCain would pick? Difficult for me to support someone who does not feel I should marry someone of the same sex.

Oye Romantico, you are the one that posted "Hillary would be a better choice for VP" in a thread that is still up here.

Hillary Clinton says the same DAMN THING: "I do not support same sex marriage. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman."

Hillary DOES NOT and HAS NOT supported gay marriage.

"Frankly, I want nothing to do with someone who dos not feel I am equal or deserve the same rights they have."

Then why are you dogging this man who feels the same way as Clinton?

I am not considering voting McCain, so lets be clear about that. No argument from me regarding McCain.

Won't even discuss Hillary at this point. She is not the nominee or on the VP list, but FYI, she has done more for gays than Obama.

Just read some blogs and this story is upsetting a lot in the gay community.Sounds like the Obama supporters do not want to hear anything like this from their candidate. We should just sweep this under the rug and get back in the closet til he gets elected. I plan on posting many topics like this if he keeps it up. I have also posted pro Obama threads and have and will defend him when he deserves it.

For someone to blindly follow someone and overlook obvious things like this is foolish.

Who's foolish? You've POSTED HUNDREDS of times how pissed you are Hillary didn't win, how pissed you are Hillary won't be VP and then you call someone who has THE EXACT SAME STAND ON THE ISSUE YOU APPARENTLY CARE MOST ABOUT AS SHE DOES a "Homophobic Bigot." You won't discuss her because you are ridiculously ill-informed (to be polite) and all you want to do is bash Obama.

You know what Romantico your logic makes no sense.

You say "Frankly, I want nothing to do with someone who dos not feel I am equal or deserve the same rights they have."

Then you say, "FYI, she has done more for gays than Obama."

Then you say, "For someone to blindly follow someone and overlook obvious things like this is foolish."

I feel sorry for gay people that do not understand the difference between what the mainstream Democratic party is touting as true Democracy. I really do.

I am an all or nothing guy. I am actually MORE ashamed of Hillary because of what you are saying "She has done more for gays that Obama." You know why? Because she could have done MORE. She could actually say, "You know what? Gay marriage is what I want and I will fight for it." Instead she folds, this great leader we have representing us. She is just as spineless as any other Democrat.

You support the woman, and you constantly stick up for her.

I seriously think she is a contender for VP. She was surely offered it.

Hillary's position is not exactly like Bayh's. Yeah I am pissed but am willing to give Obama a chance, despite his idiotic supporters/bullies. Oh, and no Hillary is not a bigot.

My question is why are you overlooking this. You are angry that I am defending Hillary (who is not the nominee) and then you turn around and defend the man (who is the nominee) for having a bigot on his short list for VP.

Both of you agree with me and support me when I post a topic defending Obama but then get pissy when I point out a legitimate concern, almost as if I have broken some law by pointing this out for all to see.

Papa is supporting McCain but at least he is fair and points out his flaws. Obama supporters see what they want to see. Oh, and before you even go there, Hillary has her flaws to, but she is not the nominee and won't be VP.So the 50% of the Democrats who voted for her should just shut up and vote for Obama.

"Hillary's position is not exactly like Bayh's."

Uh how is it different? Tell me.

"Papa is supporting McCain but at least he is fair and points out his flaws. Obama supporters see what they want to see. "

I have been pointing out Obama's flaws all along. I have stated many things like how he still funds the war, isn't for single-payer health care, gay marriage, Bush impeachment, skipped the Iran vote.

I supported him because I think he is more electable than Cliton and now because I don't want John McCain.

Again, Hillary has her flaws and this is something that has bothered me. Hillary for example talked to gay magazines and websites during her campaign where Obama only spoke to one. The Advocate.

"Hillary Clinton and Gay Marriage: Some gay and lesbian voters don't feel like Hillary Clinton has done enough to support gay and lesbian rights, while others believe she is the best candidate for gay and lesbian issues. Clinton opposes gay marriage but supports civil unions between members of the same sex. During her husband's administration, she supported the Defense of Marriage Act, a law preventing the federal recognition of same-sex marriage.

"Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage always has been, between a man and a woman." - Hillary Clinton, opposing same-sex marriages, quoted in The New York Daily News.

However, in October 2006 Hillary Clinton was quoted by 365gay.com as saying,"I believe in full equality of benefits, nothing left out. From my perspective there is a greater likelihood of us getting to that point in civil unions or domestic partnerships and that is my very considered assessment."

http://lesbianlife.about.com/od/lesbianactivism/p/HillaryClinton.htm

Well, then I agree with you half way MJHF.I have also defended him but I will point out things that I object to. I was and still am a big Bill Clinton admirer, but he did piss me off when he was President a few times. No one is perfect. I disagree with you on leading this country. In my opinion, Hillary was and is more qualified than McCain and Obama combined, but we will never know.

You and despite our difference have one common goal and that is we DO NOT want McCain in office.I am proud that it was the Democrats who were the first to elect as a nominee a African American as Commander in Chief. A lot can happen between now and November and Obama has that time to show me that he is "the one". Gay issues are very strong with me but I will not NOT vote for someone just on one issue alone. I do think it is important and it is something that should be on every gay man and woman's mind when voting. Being against gay marriage is very safe. So, when Obama says he is not like all the others and he will bring change to DC, I have to call him out on stuff like this. I wish more people had Gavin Newsom's attitude towards the subject.

We will get nowhere arguing and I have read enough of your posts and Joekv99's to know that you are both the type I could have over for dinner and drinks and get a long with. I am however concerned with who he picks for VP. This will be a BIG part of me voting and I need someone who I feel is looking out for me.

re: Evan Bayh - is not a homophobic bigot #16

Bayh is not a bigot. He does not support gay marriage. I wish he did, but like most politicians he does not. That's why I'm not upset. What I keep pointing out about Not-the-nominee Hillary Clinton is that you've written tons of glowing posts about her- but her POSITION IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS BAYH'S WHO YOU ARE CALLING A HOMOPHOBIC BIGOT. Do you see how that might be seen as a teensy tiny bit hypocritical?

There is no perfect candidate. I have been beating that drum for months. I think Obama is the best shot at being elected and being a good president. He is not perfect, he is not the second coming and I do not think it's wrong to get excited about him or think he'd be a great president.

And Romantico for the record, I don't think I've ever agreed with you. If you somehow posted something I believed to be correct I'd probably think long and hard about my own sanity and try to ignore it.

Fine, then don't agree with me.I feel he is a bigot. Thats my opinion just like you feel Hillary is one. Hypocritical? No, not at all. Last week it was Kaine on his short VP list and there was similar stuff said about him.Maybe I have you confused with someone else Joe. Keep questioning your sanity.
