It is true. I went to Marie's with a friend a few months ago and I was singing a solo and every cute gay male there bought me drinks. It was a hoot.
I had a blast. Love that place.
But we think of them as GIRLFRIENDS.

often times derogatory terms are embraced by those who they are aimed at... gays were called sissies, girly, etc. now theyre girlfriends... there actually is logic there.

Actually, there's a difference between using it amongst ourselves (example, Eddie Varley goes into a shrieking fit because someone stole his original cast recording of Whoop-Up! and I say 'What's her problem' or 'Girlfriend needs to pull it together.'

I must say I bristle when straight folk use that towards me or other gay men I know. Like, I know you're trying to be all hip and cool about the gay thing, but really...stop.

I have a d*ck and I know how to use it. Just don't want to use it on the ladies.

I'm just saying not everyone feels the same way about being called 'girl' or 'girlfriend'.

And when a straight friend of mine uses it (though not often...my close friends wouldn't even think about it), it puts me in a situation of should I just grin and bear it or should I point out that it bugs me, even though said person is trying to be 'supportive.'

As NBC would say, it's one to grow on.
