It's a perfect day until, all of a sudden, you'll find yourself drowning in the middle of the ocean. You will have to scroll up like mad in order to keep your head out of the water.

That is pretty impressive. I stopped after 1:45 to see what would happen.... yep, I drowned and my life with a woman I didn't know flashed before my eyes...

I've done it three times and drown every time at around the 4.45 mark. Must not be programmed to go beyond that.

And once you hit the 4-minute mark, the guy pulls the entire nail off his own finger. That was kind of disturbing...

The fingernail is triggered by a mix of gameplay length and the speed of the scroll. I only made it to 3:45 and the fingernail was the last thing that triggered before the flashback sequence.

My guess is the victim got swept out in the current pretty quickly. I remember that was a big scare in Open Water. They didn't pay attention for one second and they wound up being separated by at least 100 yards in no time.

Just in case anyone finds himself in such a situation, the key is not to struggle, but to keep your lungs full of air. Unless you are wearing weights or have Confederate gold sewn into the lining of your dress (real case), you will not sink with lungs full of air.

It's called the dead man's float: take a deep breath and relax; you will float with your face in the water. Let a little air out slowly and then when you need to breath, raise your head and exhale and inhale quickly. Repeat. Stay relaxed; there's no reason to deny yourself air whenever you need to take a breath.

Unless the water is very cold and you succumb to hypothermia (or you are eaten by something), you can do the dead man's float for hours or even a day or two. (And as for being eaten, you are less likely to attract predators if you are not flailing around.)

I learned this decades ago in lifeguard class and used to do it for hours just for relaxation.

Sorry to be obvious, but none of the above is a substitute for climbing into a lifeboat or raft, or wearing a life preserver, etc. I'm only saying that what the video shows is not the only possible course.

coworker using his fingers made it to 4:59 and then drowned.

Figured - what if we had a machine to keep the wheel spinning on the mouse.
We got a cordless drill and attached a cork from a wine bottle that had a screw in it. (btw this was hanging about the office from a late Friday evening at work when we needed to get the cork out of the wine bottle and we didn't have a cork screw. Put a screw into the cork and pulled it out!) So we fired up the cork that was in the cordless drill and started on the wheel...guy made it to 5:02 before he drowned.

Was a hilarious 5 minute distraction for all in the office. Lots of laughter!
