I'm surprised this movie did not make a bigger deal.

What a joyful, absolutely original masterpiece. I seriously think this is my second favorite Wes Anderson film (After Royal Tenenbaums) and it really makes me think that he should be working in animation way more often.

His style is so suited to it.

I was so happy after seeing this movie. I had the biggest grin on my face.

I loved it. It's definitely in my top ten films this year and not by default. It was short and to the point in plot. Plus you had some fun voice-work of both great actors like Streep and Clooney along with Anderson staples like Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson.

Is it an animated movie more suited to adults or would kids like it? Because my son saw an ad for it and wanted to see it.

I haven't seen the movie, Stockard, but I do know that it's based on a best-selling children's book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) So it's probably great for kids, but with an edge...so you'll enjoy it too! I plan on seeing it while I'm off this week.

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Definitely for both kids and adults.

I'll be the naysayer: I didn't love it. My son though it was pretty good though. I can't quite put my finger on what didn't work for me, though.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm with ya dramamama. The main character (George Clooney) didn't appeal to me at all.

It reminded me a lot of the old WB cartoons. There's a lot of violence in Fantastic Mr Fox, but it's cute and funny and no one really gets hurt.

Also, instead of cussing, they just "cuss".

My biggest flaw was the story. I loved the characters, but I thought Mr Fox was very selfish and greedy. Also, I hate to say it, but Meryl Streep bored me. Anyone could've played Mrs Fox.

I loved the Rat.

I disliked it and didn't watch to the end. I thought the animation was ugly, didn't like the color of the film, and certainly didn't like the story.

I kind of want to see this because I love Roald Dahl, but I can't stand Wes Anderson. I'm hoping the charm of the former outweighs the latter.

Well now I'm torn. I'm thinking maybe I'll wait for it to come out on DVD. Or is it out on DVD already? Can you tell I'm totally out of the loop?

For what it's worth, Stockard, MANY online comments from various sites have indicated that it really isn't for kids.

Just rent it. There's no reason to shell out 10 bucks a person to see this one in the theatre.

I thought it was a brilliant film. Great message and and a nice change to see a different type of animation than the PIXAR crap which I am bored with. I actually enjoyed Streep's work a lot. The story is touching, I believe, and very fitting for the state of things happening in the world today (Finding a place to belong/purpose in a world that can seem against you, friends coming together to stick it to the big corporations... etc.)

Check it out and decide for yourself.

I am not an Anderson fan and totally loved it.

Huh? My nose is high because I didn't like Mr. Fox?

Wow, I thought it was only on the main board where you aren't allowed to post a negative opinion. Now they're infiltrating us over here!

Get thee back to from whence you came!

I liked it but wanted to love it. Something just didn't click with me and it never got beyond cute.

I don't think I've read a positive post from you, Jane. You're constantly condescending and negative.

p.s. have you read my most recent positive raving posts about the artwork for Miracle Worker, or Crazy Heart?
