I like the oldies but goodies, Dame.
Maltese Falcon
Double Indemnity
Gilda
Rififi
But, there are also some decent neo-Noirs around, such as LA Confidential and Blade Runner.

Have you heard of one called Black Dahlia? ( I think)
The Blue Dahlia?
Veronica Lake, I think. Didn't Raymond Chandler write it?
To the best of my knowledge, that one is not a movie (or at least not a classic film noir), but it is one of the most notoriously unsolved murder mysteries in Hollywood history.
Thats it. I want a movie I can bite my teeth into. You know.. the kind that makes you want to smoke a cigarette after even if you don't smoke.

Oh, I forgot about The Third Man. Shows some exteriors of Vienna.
DOA - Great Movie!
The Blue Dahlia (1946), with an Oscar-nominated screenplay by Raymond Chandler (the only work he ever wrote directly for the screen). Alan Ladd portrayed returning war veteran Johnny Morrison who discovered that his wife Helen (Doris Dowling) was unfaithful during his absence. When she turned up dead and he became the prime suspect, he was aided in the case by the mysterious Joyce Haywood (Lake) - the seductive ex-wife of his wife's lover.

Night of the Hunter is GENIUS. So copied and so entertaining.
The Third Man, Out of the Past and Pickup on South Street (along with Fuller's later film Naked Kiss) are all must-sees.
Agreed. Mitchum is sooo creepy in that one. Great actor! You should also see the original Cape Fear, DAME (if you haven't already).
How could I forget Night of the Hunter and The Third Man?
Oh, dear. Now I have the score of The Third Man in my head... It'll be there all day, now.
I think Laura is my favorite, with Double Indemnity right behind it. I'm not a fan of Night of the Hunter. I know, I know...
Others:
Touch of Evil
Sin City (does that count)
Laura
The Big Sleep
Gilda
Out of the Past
The Man Who Wasn't There
The Killing (thanks for mentioning it, Margo)

The Maltese Falcon

The Killing was Kubrick's first film, no? It's a pretty interesting film. Laura is another good one. And, it happens to be my name :)
I guess the Night of the Hunter is "noir," but I actually feel it's more of a "horror/thriller" movie. It scares the crap out of me in several scenes, particularly for a film of that era.
Laura is terrific, and probably my favorite of the genre. Also a few not out on DVD yet (but on TCM regularly) that a very dear (departed) friend of mine starred in: "Ride the Pink Horse" and "The Man I Love."
Double Indemnity is another brilliant "noir." And the Maltese Falcon.
We worked on a couple of box sets of 'em here at work as well:

The Killing was Kubrick's first film, no?
It was his fifth or sixth, but I think it was his first notable film. I could be wrong...

DAME-
Have you seen Touch of Evil? That movie is really creepy. Janet Leigh and Orson Welles are excellent.

What a great topic! I love noir. Favorites include several that have been mentioned: Key Largo, Night of the Hunter, Maltese Falcon, Laura, and one which hasn't, but which I adore: Scarlet Street with Joan Bennett and Edward G. Robinson. If you haven't seen it, do.
