Awesome? Really? You are in the minority on that opinion. This may be one of the worst reviewed films of the year. What movies do you NOT like?

PEACE.

Fans of Ms. Arbus are REALLY not amused by this production. At all.

It's awful. Kidman shouldn't even be on the list of actresses being considered to play Diane Arbus. She does not look or speak at all like her. The film is just absurdism for the sake of absurdism. I really loved Shainburg's SECRETARY, but he really hit a hard sophomore slump with this one.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

It's just a good movie year, I guess.

I thought Fur was quite awesome. Probably not one of the best of the year, but the lighting and score was excellent and Robert Downey Jr. was ferociously sexy.

I think that, all in all, it has been one of the worst years for film that I can remember. I'm a big fan of my current top choice, The Departed, but it can't even begin to compare to my favorites from other years.

I think it's been a year of many fine films, but not many great films at all. A lot of films that I would have expected to be throwaways were more enjoyable than expected (The Prestige, The Illusionist, Casino Royale, etc) but a lof of films that I had high expectations for (Babel, For Your Consideration, Science of Sleep, etc) were "fine" but nothing up to the standards that their directors have elicited in the past.

Anyway, back to Fur. I haven't seen it, but the trailer is laughable. I'm so, so, SO sick of Kidman and her whispery-acting. Does anyone actually find this voice that she seems to churn out for every performance of late effective? Her nails-on-a-chalkboard-esque delivery actually drove me from the theater at Happy Feet on Thanksgiving, something that's never happened to me before (though a lead character named Mumbles and all that "heartsong" crap didn't help either). Frankly, it makes me want to scratch my eyes out.

Yeah, she's quickly becoming one of my least favorite actresses. I'm at the point now where a movie with her has to REALLY interest and just beg to be seen for me to overcome my extreme distaste for her current schtick.
