re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

Bumping this thread because I logged onto facebook this afternoon and saw the chat feature at the bottom of the screen. Then when I logged on a couple minutes ago, it was gone. Has anyone else experienced this?

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

This finally showed up on my fbook yesterday. Haven't used it yet. I'm not sure I like the idea of it just popping up on its own though. I like having the options to add or remove applications and boxes on my profile.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

its just one more step towards facebook becoming our only tool of communication.....voice chat, video chat or both will probably come next.....in a weird way i think its cool but at the same time i'm a bit scared.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

I have the chat for whatever reason. I've talked to a couple of people, but they are also people I normally chat with on AIM so it doesn't bother me.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

Although I'm sick of the "People You May Know" feature. Generally if I know them and am not friends with them, there is a reason.

Hee- Facebook keeps asking if I would like to add Lorna Bell Bundy-Jones as a friend. No Facebook, I would not like to friend Laura Bell's mom. (It really cracks me up because I don't have LBB friended either, but Facebook just keeps suggesting her mom, and not her- lol.)

And I have the chat icon, have had it turned off since I first saw it, wouldn't even know what Facebook Chat (Facechat?) looks like.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

It popped up for me as well. It showed two people who I only sorta know but not enough to have any sort of IM with them.

I don't know if it is just by a particular network or whatever but these were two people that I am sorta friendly with that are on two different networks.

It is creepy though.

If I want you to IM me I will give you my AIM name.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

I don't have the chat feature, but today I added the visual bookshelf, which is quite nifty.

Honestly, though, Facebook creeps me out a little with the People You May Know, and now a chat feature.

In a way, I miss the days when Facebook was the simple and clean alternative to Myspace. Those were the days. re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

It showed up today for me. I logged off of it because it's just a new way for my former roommate to totally stalk me. Well, not like she doesn't do it anyway. But with AIM, I can ignore her, but I think the chat feature not being on has turned off the thing in my profile that says I am now online.

I tried it out today, since it decided to show up. It's not too bad, but it can get annoying.

You know you can turn that 'now online' icon off anyway, right? Even before the chat feature, I mean. It's in the privacy settings.

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

Oh, I didn't bother to look there. In a way, I don't really care who looks at my page because I have nothing to hide. However, the way facebook is set up now, it's stalker book. I don't need to know every measely detail that everyone I know does. And I don't think they need to know either.

I don't mind it too much...but it makes it even more difficult for me to focus and actually do work. =/

re: Facebook's new 'Chat' Feature

Oh yeah Marianne, Facebook is totally Stalkerbook, such is the beauty of it. :) I have pretty much everything turned off in the privacy settings, which is why I know where that 'now online' thing is.
