Ahhhhh great thread!
Cabarethed, thanks for posting about the real old TGIF, I was about to post in shock that Sabrina and Boy Meets World so cannot be considered the "old TGIF." God I was a Full House fanatic. I was the youngest of three sisters, so of course I loved Michelle. I even had a Michelle Tanner doll ::hides::
And I was a big huge Nick fan as I posted in prior threads--Space Cases, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Snick, Doug, okay I've said way too much about all this in other threads so I'll end that here.
I looved Rainbow Brite, but really only this tape I always used to rent called Rainbow Brite at the San Diego Zoo which wasn't a cartoon but Rainbow and all the characters were kinda like Mickey Mouse at Disney World and there were real kids and Murky and Lurky turned all the animals grey but Rainbow saved the day. Hehe. Speaking of video rentals, did anyone ever happen to watch Beezbo which taught about manners or Cartoon All-stars to the rescue where a cartoon was into drugs so all the other cartoon characters(Muppet Babies, ninja turtles, smurfs, etc.) came together to get him to stop.
I was also a bit into Pokemon, just the TV show and Pokemon stadium b/c I thought some of them, especially Pikachu was cute. I liked the first movie, I really didn't like the second one but I love the song "Power of One" from it.
Wasn't the point of pogs to use the big grey thingie to try to flip them?
And I also had the beeny babies, tomagochis, slap bracelets(loved those!), cabbage patch kids, etc. How about saddle shoes, I loved those in nursery school.
And to add one of my own favorites, not sure if it's really a fad or not but I'm putting it anyway..who remembers skip-it? I loved that thing!
Skip-it Skip-it
But the very best thing of all
There's a counter on this ball
So try to beat your very best score
Maybe you can skip a whole lot more
Skip-it Skip-it
Hehe! Ooh one more thing that a lot of people seem to agree on...Ace of Base was the most popular group in third grade for me...('95? I think) and TLC the same in 4th grade. Okay, too much nostalgia I have, time to shutup now.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
