Our TV stations were from those two cities. This was back in the Dark Ages ('60s and '70s). Channel 41 from KC used to show a lot of horror movies. Then it was TBS in the '70s.
Channel 9 was ABC (2 was CBS and 4 was NBC). I'm sure I watched 'em on all channels.
All six or seven we had, back then!

My Parents thought I was an Odd child. I had only one close friend, into the same Monster Stuff--I wasn't lonely, I had my Monster friends to keep me company and all those Magazines.
I guess I really was a weird kid. But I look back on my childhood with fond memories and a smile.

There were a lot of us "weirdos" out there.

*raises hand*
I had a crush on Bela Lugosi as Dracula. I had recurring dreams of running off to Vladivostok Russia with him. I kept a picture of him in my wallet, right across from Fabian.
Then my father told me that Bela Lugosi was dead, and the dreams ended.

He should have told you he was "undead."

Lon Chaney was the M-A-N. The man, I say!

I say the MAN is Max Shreck as Nosferatu, the definitive vampire!

Jane--I have the older DVD of Nosferatu. It was a decent release, but then Kino went and did up a remastered double-disc, the bastards!
I've thought about buying it but I want to know if it's worth it. Anybody own the new one? I hear the print looks fantastic. Probably worth double-dipping.
And Color and Light---I couldn't agree with you more. Imagine what he would have done with a silent Sweeney Todd!

Guys-I just watched Nosferatu on one of those sites, and it was the new, remastered version. The quality of the film was simply gorgeous-it was tinted, and perfectly crisp and clear. It's worth it! The whole time I was watching it, I couldn't help remarking how stunning it looked. The lighting effects especially!

It seems like only yesterday I was buying them. While we aretripping down memory lane, who remembers Zacherly a/k/a/The Cool Ghoul ?

Apparently, he's been available on VHS!
And LONG before VHS or DVD... I had one of those toy 8mm projectors made for kids. And I collected a few of those old horror movies (edited down beyond recognition or coherence).
I used to hold "screening parties" in my bedroom closet.
Yes, I'm OUT of the closet now... but as a kid, it was ALL about getting into the closet and watching movie magic like this:

I had a VHS on Zach & have long since put it on DVD. He was my introduction to the old Universal horror flicks.
I also remember those plastic records where you tried & tried to get the sound in synch with the film & never did.
I also have a VHS of The Mask with 3 5 minute 3 D sequences. How well it would transfer to DVD I may try & find out sometime.

Well, Mr. Roxy, I never knew those myself... but they sound absolutely hilarious! I can't believe it ever worked.
I'm sure obsessed people spent hours trying, though.
