This just pisses me off.


BALTIMORE — Lawyers for the father of a Marine who died in Iraq say a court has ordered him to pay legal costs for the anti-gay protesters who picketed his son's funeral.

The protesters are led by Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church. Albert Snyder of York, Pa., had won a $5 million verdict against Phelps, but it was thrown out on appeal.

Westboronians are like Coulterians - they just want the attention. The more attention they get, the better. I truly doubt they believe anything they claim to live for.

They might be hard to ignore, but certainly don't deserve any more publicity.

These are the same people who posted that they would protest The Laramie Project at my son's school. The director- who is a lesbian- was afraid that the alums from last year would come back to counter-protest and she said she may cancel the show. I told her that would be wrong to give into them because the show will be played on school property and we have the right to escort the protestors out. I told her that since I'm Jewish, I have learned to be tough and to stand up for injustices like this. She was scared. Personally- if she's so scared- she shouldn't have staged that show! As of now- we're still on! The kids have leanred a lot too!

Good for you Mom! The people are loud and they are nasty but they know the law! They will not protest on school property. They will stay the proper distance away. Their protests won't be long. Ever notice how when they set up protests in towns they are in each site for only 10 - 15 minutes? I am sure it is all about local laws about permits and the amount of time a group can be assembled before a permit is needed. Also a moving target is harder to hit!
They are vile hateful people who live on the publicity and the spreading of hate. They also push hard against the Freedom of Speech Right. Someday they will reap what they are sewing and I hope that day come very soon (and on television so I can watch it over and over)

They were here last month.

Apparently they just travel to various cities and protest. The local PD always gets their schedule and alerts any institution that is a planned stop.

They were supposed to be here for 3 days protesting outside some public schools (WTF?). The first one was about 2 blocks from where I live. I remember seeing about 20 times more counter protesters (mostly college age students) than Westboro fools.

Anyhoo, the press here reused to cover them except for a blurb in the paper so they packed up and left after one day.
A total non-event.

But she also said that the order was a consequence of his decision to sue the church over the demonstration.

"Mr. Snyder and his attorneys have engaged the legal system; there are some rules to that legal engagement," said Phelps, a member of Westboro who says she has participated in more than 150 protests of military funerals.

"They wanted to shut down the picketing so now they're going to finance it," she said."
