This sort of goes along with the foreign films thread. What are your favorite independent films?
Waking Ned Devine
Pieces of April
The Village
And the Toni Collette oeuvre:
Clockwatchers
Muriel's Wedding
Little Miss Sunshine
Well, Gothy, how do you definite "independent film"? We should probably start there. Are you talking about budgets, distribution (as in, no major studios) or just a vague "indie" aesthetic/style?

I define independent as something that is not high profile. Maybe a sleeper hit or a lower budgeted movie. Something that you may see at an art house or a smaller theater.
But feel free to define it using your own terms.
Off the top of my head...
Widow's Peak
Tea with Mussolini
Strictly Ballroom
The Laura Linney ouvre:
You Can Count On Me
The Squid and the Whale
The Savages
REQUIEM FOR A DREAM
