Can't sleep, plus there's only been one post on the board in the last three hours, so I figured what the hey.
Anyone care to share their favorite Laura Linney performance (screen or stage)?
I've been catching up on The Big C and it has really reminded me of her greatness - but for me, I would say my favorite of all her roles is probably as Sammy in You Can Count On Me. She should have won the Oscar that year.
It would break my heart if I found out she was another Patricia Heaton (though I doubt she is), so if you have nothing nice to say...

Oh, God, too many. But I always come back to JOHN ADAMS.
The super dork in me has to say Mothman Prophecies. It's not her best role and not the greatest film, but I never get tired of watching it. And she was absolutely perfect in Time Stands Still.

She will always be Mary Ann in Tales of the City
I love when Goth and I agree, cause it gives me hope that we can be the James Carville and Mary Matalin of BWW.
She simply IS Mary Ann Singleton. And after finally reading Mary Ann in Autumn, I truly wish they continued filming all of the books.

Yup. She's always my Mary Ann.
Well now I feel silly...I've never seen Tales of the City. I've seen nearly everything else she's done on screen, though.
Son...that's a hangin' offense round these here parts.
Oh HEAVENS! Get thee to Netflix, Amazon or pirate that $hit! Your posting privileges are hereby suspended until you have viewed the first episode!
Put me down for Mary Ann, too.
And I love the little excited dance she does in "Love Actually" when she's about to have a (short-lived) makeout session with Rodrigo Santoro.
Her PBS introductions to Downton Abbey, definitely.
Followed by Abigail Adams and Clara McMillen aka Mrs. Alfred Kinsey.
I will get on that right away, sir and ma'am...at least I apparently saved the best for last, which of course was my plan all along. Yes.

And the three miniseries total about 15 or 16 hours, so you'll be occupied for a little while. And they're really wonderful. Does this mean you haven't read the books, either? You must do that as well!
Oh my...it feels like we have a baby-gay in our care! A fag-ling that needs to be fed and brushed and taught the proper way to wear fake, ironic David Byrne glasses.
Oh...I also love me some Miss Linney in PRIMAL FEAR. Bitch is serving Lady Lawyer Realness!
A teacher handed me Tales in high school and told me to be careful because they are like chocolate. She was right. I still squeal when a new one is released, even though they don't live up to their original glory. There is a book about Anna Madrigal coming in 2013, I think. I can't wait.
Tales of the City hands down. I'd actually like to see her handle the less sympathetic Mary Ann of later books.
The first, and best, Tales of the City series is in rights limbo in North America, but it's all on youtube, so no excuse...
Is it really in rights limbo? How sad? Is it cause Marcus D'Amico is still claiming he's straight?
If Jay lives in NY, I'll lend him mine. LEND.
Read the books. They are heaven.
Alas, I don't live in NY (yet), but thanks! I will be sure to track down a hard copy somewhere, I'm not sure I could stand 16 hours on youtube. And no, I haven't read the books either.
I'm not sure if I qualify as a baby gay - maybe in terms of age, but I actually thought I was quite sophisticated...until now!

Wow, there is a lot of her work I have not seen. I guess of what I have seen, I like her "Sarah" in Love, Actually.
That could be because it's been quite a while since I watched Tales of the City -- on VHS! -- way back during my huge Billy Campbell crush days. If I rewatched that series, I might change my vote to "Mary Ann Singleton." Probably even.
I feel like a loser, but I've never seen Tales of the City either. I loved her in the Nanny Diaries though. And of course Love, Actually. I don't think I've seen all that much of her work. I'm sure there is more I'm not thinking of at the moment though. And why is there an ad for Christian Singles on this board? It seems a tad out of place here.
Maybe you've seen her in The Truman Show (as Truman's pretend wife), or The Squid and The Whale, or in Mystic River. She was also the woman that Frasier ended up with.
She's had great variety, and hasn't let me down yet.
And I guess the word "Christian" is used a lot around here for various reasons so I guess that's why it generates those ads...the ad agencies might like to refine their skills in this case.

About the ads, which I don't see, ad blocker and all, but hey, I'm Christian! There are a few of us here. lol I'm old and married though, so singles ad isn't really what I need. But yeah, I think ads are generated by what users post about or search or whatever.
Anyway, back to subject...
