Sing it!

Hi Wonderboy, Cookie, BT and Chum!

Don't know if others have seen this but TCM has been running a short featurette about Film Aid. The gist of the program is to bring film to children in places where there is little chance of entertainment and/ or imagination (Africa, Afghanistan, etc). The film that they have been showing is The Wizard of Oz and the expressions on the children's faces as they watch Dorothy and the gang are priceless.
I think I was most touched when the commentator mentioned that the girls from Afghanistan felt so priviledged to be invited to see the movie. Only to find out that it was a story ABOUT A GIRL on an adventure!
Anyway, look for it on TCM. Enjoy!

Wow! No, I wasn't aware of that but I will have to check it out. Thanks!!!

Oh Wonderboy - don't even get me started on Summer Stock - I have every lyric memorized. It is an illness, I'm convinced. If only I could use my power for good.
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

LOL You're gonna make me watch this when I get home now! I always wondered why it wasn't put on stage as well. Out of all movie musicals though, I have always wanted to secure rights to put THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS on stage. I think it would be absolutely fabulous as a stage musical.

Wonderboy, Gene's newspaper dance and Garland singing Friendly Star in Summer Stock are --in my opinion --two of the greatest M-G-M musical moments ever.

**warning - "crass" story to follow**

Judy evidently loved a good laugh and sometimes a "blue" story or joke. Director Chuck Walters knew this and used his (occasionally naughty) humor to keep Judy's spirits up.

Well, the story goes that after Judy finished filming Friendly Star and Chuck pulled that sweeping camera in for that georgous final close-up he yelled. "Cut, and will somebody please throw me a towel. I think I just c*me."
Needless-to-say, Judy roared with laughter! Sing it!

When the camera cranes up and she looks up in the sky longingly ...
"But you don't have to walk in the field again..."

Oh, I'm in a melancholy mood today and that does not help! :)

BT, Thanks for my new screen-saver at work.

PJ, I agree whole-heartedly! And that scene afterwards where Judy once again turns rather maudlin dialogue into Ibsen. Brilliant. (now I'm a bit sad thinking about that scene)

And is Gene even more handsome than usual in that scene?

I absolutely refuse to listen to that song today. I will end up in puddle of tears.

We must forget our troubles and get happy. I'm choosing to think about the 'Chillecothe' sandwich she shoves into her mouth during the opening of Harvey Girls... I love how she crams the whole thing in and tries to talk!

Judy has that dang Chilicothe sandwhich "parked" in her cheek for that whole scene.I always found it odd to see an M-G-M star talking with food in her mouth.
