Yeah, Carmine's is amazing, but you usually have to wait a really long time to get in.

Ok- I've been searching on the restaurant guide and I've found a few I'd like to know your opinion on. It needs to be fairly close to the Golden Theatre (45th and bway)-*I think* and Penn Station. We want it mid/upper class. 1 or 2 steps up from something like the Olive Garen. These are American, Thai, and Italian.

Art Cafe
Baldona
Becco
Carmine's
Bangkok House
Cozy Thai
Q2 Thai
Bella Vita
Yum Yum Bangkok
Risorante Barbetta

If you've eaten there, I'd like to know your experience!
Thanks!

Hi! I'm new to the site and am about to head to NYC myself in about a week, so this thread caught my eye.

I've been to two of the places on your list, so I can maybe lend some insight.

Art Cafe is great. I've been there for breakfast and had a waffle with fruit and frozen vanilla yogurt on top.

Bangkok House I thought was wonderful too. The restaurant is small and has a nice atmosphere. The Pad Thai was some of the best I've had and the prices were more than reasonable. I think less than $10 or so for the entree.

Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

Chicago - I would say 312 at LaSalle and Randolph. The Italian Villiage is just down the street from the LaSalle Bank Theater.

Erm.. call me dense, but 57th between 6th and 7th counts as theater district right? Too bad if it doesn't.

Fontana di Trevi - Italian - their Sorbets (Lemon, coconut, and pineapple(maybe?)) are served in the fruit skin things. They are to die for. It's great.

And the waiters there are awesome. They actually know my family now and we've been there 3 times. Twice last summer (the second time they knew my parents had ordered Merlot when we were there.) Impressive if you ask me.

Ellen's Stardust Diner - It's your basic diner food. The food wasn't necessarily spectacular, and neither was the service. But the singing was GREAT! Yeah, the waiters and waitresses sing (if you aren't familiar with the place).

Mars 2112 - It's regular food (chicken wings, salads, burgers, shakes, etc.) with extraterrestrial names and such. The aliens are neat, and the atmosphere is great.

Famiglia Pizza = perfection. I loooove that pizza. With a PASSION.

For the record, all three of these restaurants are very close to one another. Like, my friends and I were looking for Mars 2112, and we were just about to give up while sitting eating a slice of pizza. Then we saw the sign just outside the window and across the street. Ellen's is right across the street from Mars 2112.

It's okay. I wonder why they closed. It was an awesome place though. Now where am I going to get flash frozen Lemon sorbet IN a lemon peel/rind/whatever?

SweetQintheLights, I've been to Becco a couple of times and I've enjoyed it each time. It's mainly Italian but there are many other items on the menu. I expect that I'll eating there again when I'm in the city in November.

Carmine's is amazing, but the wait can be a little trying if you have no patience. I usually go everytime I'm in town, and have yet to be disappointed. If you don't mind hopping a subway, they also have a restaurant in the Upper West Side. And for what you pay, the food is absolutely delicious and comes in massive portions. Don't eat there by yourself unless you're planning on taking home a doggie bag.

I'm salivating right now just thinking about Carmine's penne.

I sent my mom and cousin a whole list of restuants. My cousin wants to surprise her mom (my aunt) by taking her/us out to lunch before the show. My cousin isn't going to the show though. She is coming in from CT just to take us out to lunch.

Her mom (my aunt) doesn't think she will see her until after she has her baby (end of September)- so my cousin and her husband are surprising her...

It's a long story...it sounds weird though.

But- I need other suggestions for the Friday before- my aunt and I are looking for a good (somewhat reasonably priced) restaurant near Rockafeelar Center to eat before we go see Conan O'Brien. Also, we may need a bite to eat after but we'd probably go somewhere close to the hotel (Marriot)

I sent her the menu to Beeco.

Thanks for your help! re: Favorite Theater District Restaurants

If you're looking for some good American food, Joshua Tree is my pick. I'm totally obsessed with chicken caesar wraps, and their's is one of my favorites. I have to go there every time I'm in the city.
