WHY DOESN'T NBC JUST GIVE COMMUNITY A FULL F*CKING SEASON???

Because COMMUNITY, like PARKS & REC, is too low-rated to be a centerpiece of their brand. NBC has, for two years now, been trying (in their phrasing) to be broader, not smarter. All they have to show for it are shows that continually come in under their niche-but-acclaimed veteran comedies. (PARENTHOOD fits this pattern on the drama side.) With THE VOICE, THE BLACKLIST and CHICAGO FIRE they've managed to stabilize the first half of the week and are on more solid ground ratings-wise than their absolute nadir, but Thursday nights are still far from Must-See TV, even though it hosts some of their best shows by quality.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

As this point pointing to Parks & Rec and Community as low-rated is BALLS!!!!! They have loyal fan-bases who are at least something to account for.

It's so odd that Six Seasons and a Movie (Okay, maybe a special) does not seem too out of range for Community at this point.

That is definitely something to account for, it's how they've stayed on the air for six- and five-years, respectively.

But it's also why NBC doesn't build around them, because they make for an incredibly low-rated foundation. NBC will keep launching new shows and hope they stick, rather than admit that those two are their best and (kind of sadly) most popular comedies.

This is a generalization, but the type of fan that Parks & Rec/Community/30 Rock-type shows attract is not one to sit at home and watch each episode live with commercials. The fans are streaming them either legally or illegally and not being counted in the ratings.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

NBC passing up on in-house talent like The Mindy Project, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and John Mulaney's show arguably shows bigger problems and more connectedness to their complete failure of rebuilding a comedy lineup.

And Whizzer is correct that the target audience for Parks & Rec and 30 Rock are younger and often do not feel the need to watch the episode live, be it watch it later on DVR, a streaming service or even wait until the entire season is on Netflix to binge

Well NBC passing on The Mindy Project was one of the dumbest things they've ever done. (Besides COMMUNITY which is aired a couple weeks each year), I think MINDY is hands down the funniest sitcom on TV.

The list of comedies strummer reeled off is part in parcel with their attempt to be, as I said, broader not smarter. They have made a calculated attempt with their comedy lineup on Thursdays. And they are reaping the lackluster results.

Honestly, only Mulaney's show of the three actually got labeled as 'smart' off the bat. I remember reading how the pilot script was passed around Hollywood with so much praise and adoration and even some people going as far to say it would 'save' the three-camera sitcom. It just feels like Bob Greenblatt wants to rid his hands of the Ben Silverman years with Kaling and Schur being tied to that era of NBC. But Mulaney was part and still part of the Lorne Michaels circle which is what made NBC passing it over so shocking. But I believe, like House, that Mulaney's show is still technically under the NBC umbrella but if it is a hit for Fox that hopefully will finally stop Greenblatt from letting in-house people. It is one thing to keep Tina Fey from going to another network but letting established show-runners/up-and-comers leave has really done nothing to improve their brand.

I agree. Finally got around to see a few episodes recently and am kicking myself for not tuning in sooner.
