Her real name is Jennifer, she just changed the spelling to stand out from the crowd and, apparently, it worked.

I think Ginnifer looks beautiful. It's a welcome change from that elfin haircut.

I wish her luck in the role. Her former sister-wife Jeanne Tripplehorn was a fabulous Jackie O. in the HBO version of Grey Gardens.

It's most likely a wig. I think Ginnifer has a wig clause in her contracts that asks production to make her a wig so she can keep the pixie cut.

Supposedly it is spelled Ginnifer because that is how it's pronounced in the south. People kept saying it wrong, so she changed the spelling to reflect the pronunciation. I believe it goes back to her college days. There's some story about a professor, but I can't remember it.

But why a G instead of a J? Is gin a reference to the South, as well? I'm reminded of a Golden Girls episode in which Blanche goes on about how she didn't wait for her wedding night because she had these urges.

Her college professor kept correcting her pronunciation of her own name, saying it was JENnifer. Ginnifer, pronouncing the first syllable the same as the liquor, was the closest to the Southern pronunciation.

There is a news reporter in Philly who spells it Jennaphr. A friend from junior high spells it Jen, but we pronounce it Gin.
