I used to adore this movie as a kid. I just watched some of it again, and I must say, I had good taste when I was little. The movie is hilarious and touching. Seriously, I was laughing out loud just now... it's much better than most of what passes for humor nowadays.
And that tossed salad scene with Sandra Bernhard is my favorite. God, they really don't make movies like this anymore, do they?

^More than occasionally.
One of the big things Joan Cooney stressed when creating the show was that it *had* to be engaging enough for the kids, yet not bore the pants off the parents.
And, interestingly, they weren't going to let the puppets interact with the humans. But the children they tested the show on were much more engaged with the puppets, so they decided to expand it.
And, yea, this is still one of my favorite films of all time.
