My school is putting on the play Fools by Neil Simon. There will be two grades auditioning and I am in the younger grade. The version my school is doing has three parts for girls and only one good part out of those three. I am going to audition for Sophia and if anybody is familiar with the play, I need some advice on how I should read it. Thanks!

I realized a lot of people haven't seen fools, so I'll just give you an idea of the character. She is simple minded because she is under a curse, but she is rather smart deep down. Towards the beginning of the play she is one of the dumbest people in the village, but as the play progresses it seems she becomes smarter and smarter. She also says very smart things randomly. I don't know if I should be serious and straightforward, ditzy, or just kind of dreamy like I'm thinking about something else. Help please!!!

hey! i was just in fools in my high school and i played sophia! It was one of the most fun shows ever and i LOVEDDDDD the part soooo much. I suggest to just play it as a sweet young girl. The most important thing about her is that although she is supposed to be the dumbest in the town she is really the most intelligent character. Just portray her innocence and loving nature and you should be good. have fun!
