Anyone for the "Snape was in love with Lily and that's why he switched sides" theory?

I don't know about the switching sides part... but i really like the idea of Snape being madly in love with Lily.... perhaps a little cheesy, but it explains a lot

Well, it would explain the "remorse" thing, why he felt bad for giving Voldy the prophecy info.

oooh that's true... but most importantly it rounds out the whole hating James thing... but, has anyone heard the theory that James is actually Lupin, JKR shot it down but I was thinking... maybe it was Lily who switched with Lupin... just a thought (maybe too weird)

That's...an odd theory. Personally, I don't really think that anyone is anyone else, the Polyjuice device is a bit too old now, and it would make things too easy.

yeah... that's true Atrias... but Lily's ability in Charms has to come up in book 7 somewhere, because JKR has repeated that Lily was talented in Charms constantly over the course of the series... does anyone have any ideas as to something her charms would come in handy for?

Maybe a charm that ensured that Harry would be protected? I dunno, that's kind of what I thought.

oook... I can see that, but more with Lily, I haven't heard too many Green Eye theories, but does anybody know any good ones, about how Harry and Lily have almost the exact same green eyes?

MAYBE SHE TRANSPLANTED HER EYES INTO HARRY AND THEY GAVE HIM SPECIAL POWERS!!! Ah...just kidding, lol. What theories are you talking about?

how everyone in the entire series always comments on the fact that Harry's eyes greatly resemble Lily's and I think JKR said they will come into play, I haven't heard many theories on what this could mean... I'm having a hard time coming up with ones myself

I read that, too, but I can't see how the color of someone's eyes really would be a major plot point. Unless, going back to the Snape thing, he hated Harry 'cause he looks like James, but protects him 'cause he has a part of his mother's...I don't know, I'm pretty sure my thinking is way off on this one, but I have no one else to bounce my theories off of. My family is getting sick of mine.

Personally I believe the eyes thing came into play most with book 6 where it was Harry's / Lily's eyes staring at the-new-professor-whos-name-I-can't-remember that made him give up the memory of the Horocrux w/ dear old Voldi.

Plus I think it did serve as a constant reminder to Snape that James won Lily. That James fathered Harry. That no matter how much Snape loved Lily, she was never his. And that no matter how much he desperatly wishes that Harry looked like him and had Lily's eyes, he knows it can't ever be.

Harry is a walking reminder of Snape's deep Love/Hate thing regarding the Potters and that night etc. Lily/James.

I also think the eye thing is just another reminder of his mothers love and his parents and as a character development piece. It's his description : You look just like your father, except for the eyes. You have Lily's eyes.

It's an easy way to consistantly describe Harry without describing him TOO much. Brilliant on JKR's part. LOVE her.

Perhaps Lily has a living descendant or was reincarnated...Anyone notice which other girl in the books has red hair, green eyes and a proficiency in Charms?

Ginny Weasley.

I don't think Lupin could have been involved at all in That Night at Godric's Hollow. He believed (like everyone else) that Sirius was the traitor (and the secret-keeper), that Pettigrew was innocent and Sirius had killed him, etc., until he realized the truth in Book 3.

I think JKR still owes us a lot more info/background on Lily. I don't think Ginny is 'Lily reincarnated' or anything, but Harry may be drawn to her because she reminds him subconsciously of his lost, idealized mother. (Ooo, psychological!) re: For those of you who read the 6th Harry Potter book.

James and Lily have to be dead, because didn't they come out as Ghosts in book four when Harry and Voldemort's wands matched, and then the last people you killed come out in reverse order?

Are they really? I could have sworn they were green.

I wasn't going to start a new thread for this because I figure anyone interested in Harry Potter will be reading this thread anyway.

The international Goblet of Fire trailer is now up on the official site!

http://harrypotter.warnerbros.co.uk/gobletoffire/

I just had shivers watching it!! This trailer looks far more promising than the other ones did when they first came out. Oooh, the score. Oooh, Dumbledore's voice-over. Oooh, oooh, I'm still shivering!

I've read quite a bit of plot speculation in these threads. Has anybody actually mentioned - or even been interested in - some of the thematic content or the social commentary involved in this opus?
