a theory is elevated from being a mere theory when its claims can be independently verified and make accurate predictions.
the fact that evolution happened cannot be denied at this point. the antibiotics you take when you get sick in fact were stolen from bacteria. they have been using antibiotics against each other for a millenia competing for resources. anyone who thinks that evolution is just an opinion should not get chemotherapy for cancer, most of which has its genesis in mouse studies before they can be tried in humans. the reason this works is because of our close genetic relationship to something even as different looking as a mouse.
in fact, evolution is the explanation FOR cancer. random mutations occasionally disable oncogenes which are responsible for programmed cell death. this causes the proliferation of immature cells, hence, cancer. this is why, even though i don't know any of you, i know that you know someone who has had some kind of cancer. even though i don't know a thing about mikey or jim colyer or abby, i know for certain cancer has struck someone they know too. this is illustrated even in the anonymous internet, with the recent death of a long time poster. it doesn't care what race, religion you are or what political preferences you have. this is why that poor young girl from the lion king was killed by leukemia. it doesn't care that you're sweet and talented.
evolution also explains why abby has rheumatoid arthritis. we have an immune system that was made, by committee, over millions of years of evolution. the immune system is designed to recognize intruders and remove them. occasionally there are mutations which cause the immune system to recognize self as other. when this attacks the joints, you thus have rheumatoid arthritis (and a huge litany of other diseases).
evolution explains why guys are such horndogs. because, for most of the history of life, guys had to be. the only way for life was to proceed was to do it in excess, i.e., screw everything that moves. this was the only way to ensure that you passed your genetic material on, as 90% of your offspring weren't going to make it. this is observable in nature even now; just watch any nature documentary, as sir david attenborough shows you the cute face of some polar bear cub or a baby lion and solemnly tell you that they only have 20% chance of mking it to adulthood. this is further reflected in microcosm in every male primate, who makes far more sperm than is ever necessary to procreate. this is why, even though i don't know you, i know there are times when you really feel like you need to get off. life wants to **** and spread your genetic material. this is why you only need to set your watch before news spreads of some well known male primate who couldn't keep it in his pants, like patreaus, clinton, schwarzeneggar, weiner, kennedy, thomas jefferson, martin luther king, etc., etc. male primates are not designed to keep it in the pants, which is the easy explanation also for the high infidelity rate.
this list goes on and on.
