Not to be a hand-wringer--well, that's actually EXACTLY what I'm doing--but I'm bowled over at the amount of outward irrational rage directed at this man. He's not a man or even a president anymore...he's a symbol and a lightning rod.
Yes, another four more years.
And please keep him safe.

Posted: 11/11/12 at 1:06amno one can dispute those fact, mikey. what is missing, though, is the data which conclusively and irrefutably shows that, under a mccain/palin administration, those numbers would be significantly better. in the same way that those numbers at the end of the bush administration do not prove that he was responsible for them (probably most fair minded people would agree that there was blame on both sides of the aisle for the bubble).

Wait, wait, wait. Before my head explodes like Karl Rove being confronted with the electoral results in Ohio--let's be very clear.
Evolution is a ***"Scientific"Opinion*** That is to say it is the opinion of main-stream, establishment professional Science. It has been reached through extensive research with reproducible, unbiased conclusions that are based upon the facts derived from that research.
It is not a "personal" opinion, like "I believe that cheesy fries taste better with gravy".

Is evolution, indeed, a "fact"?
It is broadly accepted by science as the accepted theory for the way in which plant and animal species develop and change over time, but at what point does the word "fact" come into play?
I'm not trying to be pedantic (I never TRY to be pedantic; it just works out that way over and over again...) I just want clarity.

There is real, extant evidence of every step from Ape to Man over the past 10 million years.
Just because there is a small but vocal group of Cult-members who claim that they have another "theory", don't the facts remain facts?

You're absolutely right. The worst economic crisis since The Great Depression surely should have been cured in less than four years. After all it took how long for us to recover from the Crash?
Oh, yeah. From 1929 to 1941, with a little help from World War II.
And don't bother asking questions like how much worse the state of the American economy might be if Obama had not implemented his policies, or how much better it might be if other policies, such as the jobs bill, were not thwarted by the right solely with the intent of preventing the economy from becoming stronger under Obama's watch and enabling people like you to frame the complaint against Obama exactly the way you are doing here.

a theory is elevated from being a mere theory when its claims can be independently verified and make accurate predictions.
the fact that evolution happened cannot be denied at this point. the antibiotics you take when you get sick in fact were stolen from bacteria. they have been using antibiotics against each other for a millenia competing for resources. anyone who thinks that evolution is just an opinion should not get chemotherapy for cancer, most of which has its genesis in mouse studies before they can be tried in humans. the reason this works is because of our close genetic relationship to something even as different looking as a mouse.
in fact, evolution is the explanation FOR cancer. random mutations occasionally disable oncogenes which are responsible for programmed cell death. this causes the proliferation of immature cells, hence, cancer. this is why, even though i don't know any of you, i know that you know someone who has had some kind of cancer. even though i don't know a thing about mikey or jim colyer or abby, i know for certain cancer has struck someone they know too. this is illustrated even in the anonymous internet, with the recent death of a long time poster. it doesn't care what race, religion you are or what political preferences you have. this is why that poor young girl from the lion king was killed by leukemia. it doesn't care that you're sweet and talented.
evolution also explains why abby has rheumatoid arthritis. we have an immune system that was made, by committee, over millions of years of evolution. the immune system is designed to recognize intruders and remove them. occasionally there are mutations which cause the immune system to recognize self as other. when this attacks the joints, you thus have rheumatoid arthritis (and a huge litany of other diseases).
evolution explains why guys are such horndogs. because, for most of the history of life, guys had to be. the only way for life was to proceed was to do it in excess, i.e., screw everything that moves. this was the only way to ensure that you passed your genetic material on, as 90% of your offspring weren't going to make it. this is observable in nature even now; just watch any nature documentary, as sir david attenborough shows you the cute face of some polar bear cub or a baby lion and solemnly tell you that they only have 20% chance of mking it to adulthood. this is further reflected in microcosm in every male primate, who makes far more sperm than is ever necessary to procreate. this is why, even though i don't know you, i know there are times when you really feel like you need to get off. life wants to **** and spread your genetic material. this is why you only need to set your watch before news spreads of some well known male primate who couldn't keep it in his pants, like patreaus, clinton, schwarzeneggar, weiner, kennedy, thomas jefferson, martin luther king, etc., etc. male primates are not designed to keep it in the pants, which is the easy explanation also for the high infidelity rate.
this list goes on and on.
